A disappointing result first up, cmon boys we need to spend more time in the nets, instead of looking for elephants and dodging tea each night....

First 'A' Team Test - Coach's Report
Well, well, well... erm, well... that's about it. There aren't many adjectives that you can use to describe a game where seven players record ducks, whilst at the same time remaining acceptable for this statement to be broadcast on Children's CWTV news.

With the bat, It was very disheartening to see the near-constant turnover of the wickets digit of the scoreboard as many of our batsmen, both experienced and from the new crop, struggled to come to terms with the step up in quality from state sides to meeting players with International experience.

We've known for some time that CWLanders have more issues than we might like against the turning ball, but I don't think anyone amongst the coaching team or tour management group really believed that we would fail to make an impact to such an extent in the subcontinent.

We need to ask ourselves whether this was just an aberration, a freak result or a coincedence - or whether it's really the case that our spinners' domestic performances do no more than flatter them as they take advantage of weak players of spin. Our trio shared four wickets, whilst India's less-than-established pairing of Amit Mishra and Ramesh Powar picked up fourteen.

Is it a similar to the "Indians abroad" effect? Exposing players like Yohannan who aren't up to the International fold, with disasterous results, and seeing the batting seriously struggle against an extra level of specialist bowling class... or is it a single Dhoniesque swallow - I hope so.

Even so, amidst the gloom, there were still several bright spots - Mike's belligerent 79 first time out, and Dinu and Dauthy showing glimpses of their class with half-centuries. Still, I feel that too many of us denied our natural instincts and tried to play in a way that doesn't suit ourselves. Lezama isn't a 9-off-78 batsman, and that's only ever going to drag down your average.

Right, nets...

Match Ratings: Young 5, Verghese 4, Dauth 7, Kearsley 4, de Silva 6, Chaulk 6, Wilson 7, Lezama 2, Bennett 4, Richards 3, Timewell 5

What is your obsession with which schools people go to?

In a way it's quite an alarming question to be asking so many people...

A batting position is just a number and shouldn't affect your approach - what is significant is the game situation. Besides, it's a long batting lineup and there was no-where else to put you!
