Dear oh dear, I feel old. First I take my teenage stepkids to Old Trafford and realise that I saw REM do some of those same songs years before they were even born, and now there's a thread about crowd-pleasing characters and no-one has mentioned Derek Randall. It's the end of the world as we know it, but I don't feel fine.

Funny you should say that, Mike. I was only just thinking about Randall at the Centenary Test when he was felled by a Dennis Lillee bouncer, only to scramble to his feet, bow and doff his cap.

Priceless.

On a similar musical note, my son went to Donington Park last weekend to see Black Sabbath - just the 35 years since I first saw them.

here is one...Collis King..APPARENTLY quite enjoyed (whilst pro for Blackpool 25 years ago) drinking a bottle of rum whilst waiting to bat and taking part in naughtiness with the local ladies in his car ..as I say..APPARENTLY

He has. He committed suicide when his son David was sacked by Surrey. Strangely, or perhaps not, it hasn't affected his "drumming".
