RIP Syd. Actually met him briefly at the Gabba in 1998. He was hosting a tour group. Came across as the great bloke he was acknowledged as.
I just enjoy remember him playing for England, shame injury limited his career.RIP Syd. Actually met him briefly at the Gabba in 1998. He was hosting a tour group. Came across as the great bloke he was acknowledged as.
A bit off topic, but over the years when I see one of those old Gillette Cup scorecards, I end up down a rabbit hole for an hour or so trying to find the cricketer with the oldest birthdate to play list a cricket. I've seen a few born around 1918, and thought at 45 years old, that was probably the answer, but this must be it.Remarkable record in one way - a few matches for Northants in the 30s and then one list A game for Suffolk against Kent in 1966 at 54 - Colin Cowdrey was man of the match and scored a ton, but Cyril conceded just 31 from his 12 overs, so he must have bowled pretty well
Good bowler. His premature retirement hurt India a lot in that era because our spin stocks were close to non-existent apart from him. Feel like Kapil's career could've been even better if he'd had Doshi alongside him through the mid/late 80s because without another quality bowler in the lineup, he just took on too big of a burden.Dilip Doshi passed away yesterday. RIP. Was an underrated bowler who I felt was treated really unfairly by the Indian selectors.
Played Currie Cup cricket for Eastern Province too. Well travelled. RIP, Wayne.Former England player and county cricket stalwart Wayne Larkins has died aged 71.
