Cricket Launches Bid for Olympic Inclusion

Yessss, for the love of God, get it sorted. It would be amazing.

Article is light on detail but ideally it'd be a football style U/23 type deal. Would also love to see the Caribbean countries compete as standalone nations and try and nab a medal. The odds were probably stacked too heavily against them in the 50-over version at the 98 Commonwealth Games, but anything's possible in T20s.

Also, how are there 30 million cricket fans in the United States?

Loads of South Asian and British people live in the states. Would probably be close to 30 million.

First google result says 5.4 million South Asians in the the US. Add some Caribbean immigrants and some Brits and assorted commonwealth and it all adds up to a case of creative accounting on par with a high school kid with an upturned collar describing how many chicks he's had.

As one of these 30 million cricket fans...I assure you that it's not only ppl from the sub-continent. There is a large contingent of Caribbean people, Saffers, Kiwis, Aussies, the Irish, Italians, Swedes, etc...so they all add up to make the 30 million.

On a more off-topic note, I've just got started to follow the Minor League Cricket tournament. Some big names...former test players, ODI players, T20I players...

I don't want cricket at the Olympics. If you can't do it properly, don't do it. And I don't like sports that not everyone has the ability to compete in. It will not grow the sport in countries that don't play. Handball has not taken off in Australia and that has been around forever.

That’s pretty irrelevant honestly. It’s the funding that will come along with inclusion as an Olympic sport. If you ever read about the troubles of affiliate nations it’s always funding and awareness. The Olympics will help solve both.

The Argentinan cricket team for example, which is actually formed primarily by locals rather than expats, think an Olympic inclusion would bring a 500k boost in funding. Massive for a team that has trouble buying bowling machines
