Cricket in 2028 Olympics

They gonna announce the cutoff date.

NZ is pissed off because they are gonna find it difficult to go past Australia in the T20 rankings.
I wonder if Australia have already had this in mind for a little while now. Might explain why they keep choosing to bowl first even after they've already won a series. They probably want a bit of a buffer in the rankings before they inevitably go get smashed in India later this year.

Yeah Australia have been smart. NZ too have gone hard. Both teams clean swept their respective series'.

The gap is only 13 points at the moment and there's a heap of T20 cricket to be played in the next 7 months in the lead up to the T20 WC. Australia also have 3 T20s in NZ in October. These could end up being crucial (twofold effect on rankings between the two)

Meh the other Asian sides have just as much right to be annoyed.
If ICC hadn't used regional rankings, they would have gone with world rankings instead.

Host + top 5
or
Host + top 4 + 1 qualifier

The other Asian sides are miles off the top 4 spots. They shouldn't be as aggrieved as NZ.

(The only reason SA have fallen is because they have been playing a 2nd string side of late).

Asia sides wouldn't have secured top spots either way, using regional rankings or world rankings. NZ on the other hand may end up top 3 or top 4, yet may not qualify at all.

I can see why NZC was pissed. Always nice to get some solidarity from the PCB at the table.

Oh, well. For all those people obsessed with "context" & "meaning", we've now got some for our T20Is in the next year or so, with us & Australia fighting for the same spot at the Olympics. It might make early October at Bay Oval somewhat worth watching.
