I have just googled that these will be in Birmingham UK, in July. If people are struggling to care about the Olympics what of these?

Women's cricket is included, so there's at least one thing worth watching straight away.

Back when we were poo at Olympic level the Commonwealths were a welcome chance to see us grab some medals, now, post lottery funding, they do seem a little antidiluvian.

Plus side is the English anthem played is Land of Hope and Glory, a distinct improvement on the dirge that is God Save the Queen.

England shouldn't be using God Save the Queen as a national anthem for sporting events anyway, but that's a whole different waaaah.

For a while it was such a formality that Kenya would pile on the long distance running medals that most times we send out second stringers, because the big guns were saving themselves for Diamond League cash and the World Athletic championships. Then Uganda got seriously good at track.

With sevens and and boxing also there I am hoping we can make a splash.
