I only knew the name from scorecards but knew nothing about him. I don't agree with the last line "will surely be the last man ever to appear for England in a Test match without ever playing county cricket." This will happen a lot in the distant future, if climate change doesn't get us first.

The article mentions Townsend's father Frank and his son David playing FC cricket; David's son Jonathan did as well, which is (or at least was) unique.
