3rd Umpire
LANCASHIRE’S CHAMPIONS’ TROPHY CAMPAIGN

GROUP STAGE.
First up was the game against ND.
Lancashire batted first and were in dire straits at 88/8 before M.Pushpakumara (59no) and A.Dale (33no) rescued the situation with a brilliant unbeaten partnership of 91. Lancashire ended with a formidable total of 179/8. Of the ND bowlers, N.Bracken (3/45) and J.Yovich (2/23) were particularly impressive.
ND were faced with an uphill task, but who would have expected them to crumble for a paltry 28 all out! D.Ganesh (4/0) and youth spinner K.Sullivan (2/5) stood out as the Lancashire bowlers humiliated ND.
And so a big win first up by 151 runs.

Next were a not to be underestimated Hampshire outfit.
Hampshire batted first, but were restricted to just 113/7 by the Lancashire bowlers. S.Graham (47) stood out amongst the Hampshire batsmen while R.Munnik (2/17) and allrounder A.Barnes (1/11) were particularly tight with the ball for Lancashire.
A.Swann (46) held the Lancashire reply together as the target was reached in the 19th over for the loss of 6 wickets. D.Brown (3/30) was the most successful Hampshire bowler.
Lancashire now two wins in two games with a semifinal spot guaranteed.

The final group game between Lancashire and NSW would determine who topped the group.
NSW batted first and managed a total of 144 all out. M.Bevan (66) almost predictably held the NSW innings together. Lancashire youth player K.Sullivan did the majority of the damage with 5/24.
A.Swann (67no) again starred with the bat for Lancashire as they cruised to an 8 wicket win in the 22nd over. None of the NSW bowlers were particularly wonderful.
An impressive win and one that in the eyes of many would have established Lancashire as favourites to take out the Champions’ Trophy as the tournament entered the knockout stage.

SEMIFINAL v Tasmania.
Lancashire batted first and put together 177/5. Youth batsman O.Beasley hammered a spectacular 71 from just 45 balls and A.Schiller (39) also looked good. J.Gillespie (2/38) was the best of the Tassie bowlers.
In reply Tasmania topped ND’s woeful effort in the group stages by succumbing for a pitiful 25 all out! C.Schofield finished with the amazing figures of 2-2-0-5 as his spin bamboozled the opposing batsmen and R.Munnik also did well with 2/11.
A convincing victory by 152 runs which put Lancashire into the final for a rematch against NSW.

FINAL v NSW.
Lancashire batted first and again had little difficulty with the NSW bowlers as led by A.Schiller (92no) and A.Swann (67) they scored a very competitive 181/2. Youth paceman D.Ferguson (2/27) was the only successful bowler for NSW.
We were in for a great final!
G.Rummans (67), M.Bevan (60) and B.Lara (30no) led the charge for revenge and saw NSW to a magnificent 7 wicket win in the 24th over. It was a tight finish to a game worthy of final stature.

Congratulations Bugssy!

And for those of you who doubted Lancashire as a force this season, what do you think now?!

bugssy malone very impressed with his boys efforts but was a little dissapointed to drop a game however to drop to a good side was good. there was a lot to come out of that series with nsw holding on to firm favourites for the vb cup which nsw won last year. the 2 rookies bowled really well and will be getting alot media press no doubt. they will be talking with nsw board managers about securing there futures with nsw for the rest of there playing careers. nsw manager will post a full series report sunday night.

nsw manager very happy with the champions cup win and a little more silverware in the cupboards.

bugs was very happy with some of the senior players and a few players stood up and showed that they can play and that they deserve a spot in the starting eleven. both new comers (rookies) both stood up and played very well and are pushing on the door for contracts for next season. they will be used in all friendlys for the rest of this season to mature them in every way possible.
nsw played o.k cricket up until the finals where they knew they would play wella nd to potential.
in a hard fought final, lancashire played well and nsw had to fight hard to get the victory.

nsw manager very happy with the win.
