Viv Richards vs Shane Warne in Old Trafford.

Sunil Gavaskar vs McGrath in Mumbai

Steve Smith vs Wasim Akram in Perth

ABD vs Ambrose in Guyana

Lara vs Bumrah in Kolkata

Gary Sobers vs Murali in Kandy

Why do you reckon McGrath over Gavaskar in India
Firstly just how good McGrath was in India, secondly I don't rate Sunny as high vs pace as I used to, and he did have a tendency/weakness of nicking it to the keeper/slips. Reckon McGrath could exploit that quite a bit.

Here are mine:

Kohli 7/10 - Similar to his success against Rabada and Steyn, Donald is a big threat but his inswinging works to Kohlis strength.

Viv 6/10 - Viv bashes Warne a fair bit but has trouble with his drift at time when he tries to play across the line and takes too many risks.

McGrath 7/10 - Similar to Dravid, McGrath dries all runs for Gavaskar and eventually gets him out most times.

Wasim 6/10 - Wasim around the wicket angle and ability to swing late both ways seem tailormade to give Smith trouble and be a candidate for lbw, even with Smiths exceptional reflexes. This is when he is new at the crease, once set he dominates.

ABD 7/10 - Ambrose is a challenge for ABD but I can see him doing enough to break his rhythm and if not bat him out.

Bumrah 8/10 - Lara struggles against quality pace and Bumrahs variety will give him even more problems than Wasim.

Sobers 7/10 - Sobers was an ace against spin and Murali classically struggled against left handers like Lara, Fleming, Anwar, Thorpe.

Yeah I agree. He would choke Gavaskar. You need an attacking game against McGrath.

Donald was mainly an outswing bowler. He switched to inswing for reverse.

Virat Kohli easily, he is probably the 2nd best batsman against express pace bowlers

If 4th innings then Warne, else Viv

Sunil Gavaskar because in Asian pitches, McGrath wasn't that lethal as his SR was More than 60 .

Steve Smith because he never struggled vs left arm pace.

ABD is best batsman against pace and bounce (he struggled vs inswing bowlers)

Bumrah
Sobers

Kohli 6/10
Richards 7/10
McGrath 6/10
Smith 8/10
Ambrose 5 or 6/10, De Villiers would make a decent 40-50 Then get out
Bumrah 7/10
Murali 6/10
I agree mostly. ABD would definitely be the type to make a pretty innings before wasting it.

However, if there is any historic bat outside Gavaskar I would back against Murali it would be Sobers who was top against spin and Murali had an issue with left-handers.

Kohli vs Allan Donald in Durban - Donald. He was not an idiot, and worked out batsmen pretty quickly. 5th stump weakness will be found out pretty soon.

Viv Richards vs Shane Warne in Old Trafford - Warne. This is uncharted territory for Viv, and he Qadir had better of him when pitches took spin.

Sunil Gavaskar vs McGrath in Mumbai - Gavaskar. He will leave McGrath whole day.

Steve Smith vs Wasim Akram in Perth - Wasim is a swing bowler, not a seam or a express bowler (although express at pomp). The bounce and lack of swing will work against him. Smith

ABD vs Ambrose in Guyana - Very even contest

Lara vs Bumrah in Kolkata - Lara struggled against inferior bowlers that included Srinath, in India. Bumrah is an upgrade. So Bumrah.

Gary Sobers vs Murali in Kandy - Considering Kandy is a pretty spicy pitch for quick bowlers and don't spin as much as other pitches in SL this is a close one. Sobers is an ATG player of spin. Having said that, quality of Murali is also uncharted territory for him. I would go for even contest.

Kohli dominated Rabada in sa pitches who is way more lethal than donald .
So it will be a easy win for Kohli -8/10
