Yeah, but it tends not to be as severe as these two guys. Which makes sense because the vast majority of away fixtures are going to use Kookaburra, not one of the variant balls, and so at least that one factor you don't have to adjust for.
Makhaya Ntini and Vernon Philander

I mean, most people do better at home than away.
Yeah, but oftentimes that's just a generalized unfamiliarity with conditions.

There's a subset of English bowlers you can tell can't cope with the ball not swinging, or Indian spinners who can't when the ball isn't ripping and turning the same.

Generally speaking both of these countries are doing their players and teams a disservice by being an outlier on the condition of play, forcing their players to have to adapt more often, and to a greater extent than players from other nations.

In a few years, maybe we can have Jaiswal over Viru
Viru is godly in flat tracks and turners but he really is limited in when the ball swings or seams much. Merchant was significantly better in those conditions, infact averages in English FC more than anyone bar Bradman, Headley and Jimmy Cook for a minimum 1000 runs, including Englishmen. Also was pretty Great in stickies. And to top it off, he was a literal God in Ranji Trophy. Averages 98. So it's really Test career vs FC stats, and more so to do with covering all niches or specialising in one. Truthfully, I don't even think Merchant would be much worse in India than Viru.

Sehwag also had the habit of underestimating spinners and throwing his wicket away, if he was a bit more cautious I'm not really sure how he'd get out to spin.

Ashwin slaps Anderson and probably mankads him too
Ashwin is weirdly tall for a spinner but Anderson is his equal in height and is probably more athletic given being a pacer and all, peak to peak, I think Anderson would win the fight.
