Battle of the Batting Orders

Yeah but that had several other factors to it. Bowling being a Huge One. Also think they have a Collectively Much higher Ceiling and won more matches just off of Batting.
It's more that SA had a lower floor than India and were less likely to collapse that gives them the edge for me.

Smith wasn't great at home and Elgar&Gary Kirsten's home records reflect that it wasn't some impossible task to do better but he was still easily an above average opener in South Africa. Sehwag wasn't.
Yeah Sehwag averages 25 there but that's with a hundred coming at no.6 on debut

Smith averages below 30 at Home against Australia, Sri Lanka, NZ and Pakistan, and barely above 30 to India. Sehwag had a debut ton in SA. I think he would be about average with a full home career.

I don't see Sehwag repeating Smith's home average of 38 outside games v Bangladesh&Zimbabwe. Just not sustainable in those conditions.

Sehwag averages 50 in his First SA tour. And really, the only team Smith did even decent against of Quality was England. I don't think Sehwag with a full career will be much worse.

I don't think the SA floor is lower. About equal really. So significantly lower ceiling and around equal floor.
That's not true. India had some spectacular collapses in the 2000s, WI and NZ 2002, at home vs Aus in 2004 and Eng 2006, a few times in SA. Then of course in Eng and Aus 2011.

SA pretty much was 2-3 times I can recall at home between 2007 to 2014.

Remove Sehwags debut hundred at no.6 and you still think he is as good an opener in SA?

Pretty much Some one stood out in Everyone of them. In 2004 Aus for eg, Sehwag was Pretty Great and Sachin was practically missing.

15 is a 5X bigger sample and he clearly lacked solidity on eye test which is backed up by his record in England and New Zealand.
Yk among his 2 English tours, his first one was pretty decent; and he only sucked in the 2 matches in 2011.

Why should I Remove it?? It was his Debut Century. I would rather have Dravid Open and bat him at 5/6.
Because he wasn't an opener obviously and we are judging them as opening bats in SA. Once you remove his late order runs, he is a joke in SA.
