Batting in cricket 2005

Hi,
I brought cricket 2005 on the 2nd July and have played it regularily since. After a shaky start i soon got the hand of batting on easy, using my feet to make room (walking outside legssde and square driving for 4).
However i then put the difficulty up to medium and found u cannot move your feet, its more realistic but now the obly boundaries i can score without the 6 hit button are straight drives. nothing else. the AI bowls it on the stumps most balls and u have to play straight

does anyone have any solutions, or good shots to use?
thanks in advance

Go back to easy, and practice WITHOUT moving your feet.

That should get you sorted.

I'm finding that you need to play the ball a lot earlier than in C2k4. My first game with World XI v Northants I was all out for 2!!!

i m getting the hang of it more now. you have to use shots like leg glance, and the drives to get 1's or 4's. Then when you have confidence, the ball is in the right place and there are no fielders on the boundary use the 6 hit button and go over the top. Just got 278 ALL OUT 43 overs with England against Sri Lanka on Hard.

something i just noticed is the technique, who did they model it on? Ricky Ponting! The batsmens back foot moves and their heads end up well outside the line of the ball. a big no no in real life

Im pretty sure the righties are based on ponting and the lefties lara, hence BLIC and RPIC?

I think it's only RPIC to try and appeal to the Aussie market more.
Yeah I agree. I can't see codemasters making two different cricket sims and releasing them together.

I am struggling on Ps2 batting on easy, i guess my confidence is the problem, i tend to struggle more on Ps2 than XBox though. Is it easier on XBox or something?

just try and time it, the margin for timing is incredibly tight, try for a front or back foot shot pressing the button just as the ball pitches, selecting the best shot for each delivery is also wise..

Batting help

I've being playing PS2's cricket 2005 (my god it's better than that BLC rubbish) on hard for about 4 weeks now and would offer the following advice :jockey:

1) Look at the field. SO so important. If there's no mid-on, then the lofted shot over mid on becomes a fairly safe shot. I often adjust where the batsmen stands to help find the gaps (e.g If there is no square leg, then shuffle over the stumps and look to clip the ball off your legs). The computer often sets this lovely field (particularly at the start of tests)where there is a gap in the over and no mid-on. You should have a field day when they do this.

2) The two most productive shots in the game IMO are the cover drive (Down & left & X) and the back foot leg glance (Back & right & triangle). Both shots are fairly risk free if timed correctly - play the cover drive late and the leg glance early.

3) Watch the speed and swing bit carefully. The quicker the ball, the easier it is to hit. I often just avoid playing the really slow deliveries (particularly off spinners) as you often loft them to the fielders.

4) RUN CAREFULLY! Make sure you wait until the ball beats the fielder before setting off. The fielders sometimes run like Linford Christie, so don't get caught by this (as I often do). I hope EA sort out the fielding, as it's the only real let down in the game - the fielders are just too damn quick and react way too quickly.

5) There is a delivery off seam bowlers that will hit the top of off stump regardless of whether you do a front/back foot defensive shot. Just do the run down the wicket defensive shot to these and you should be fine.

Hope that helps.
