There are more than enough examples of fail-in-one-succeed-in-the-other for it not to be taken for gospel that a good First-Class player will succeed in the one-day game.
Why change it to Domestic Cricket?

That has little bearing on the pressures and mental strengths needed for Internationals - and that is what this is all about.

Gower had talent, but he played poor strokes with more regularity than Boycott. Hence IMO Boycott was the more talented player.
Ramprakash isn't quite as talented as either IMO.
well take some one like Steve waugh, who cut some shots out of his repetoire....that wasnt talent that cut out his 'weaker' shots it was disipline and mental strength, he had the strength to cut out the risks..same as Boycott.

Gower was much more of a natural talent than Boycott, you couldnt coach a player like Gower that much because it was all there..Boycott needed practise and mental strength to cut out the risky shots and hone the shots he did have

If he's already succeeded in ODI Cricket, his shot selection and Technique can't be that bad.
By ODI standards, yes - not neccesarily by Test standards.

If anyone could just cut out shots they knew weren't a good idea all you'd need for Test-cricket would be mental strength.
Shot-selection is very, very hard to improve, you need a hell of a lot of talent for it to be up to Test standards. Discipline, ie good shot-selection, is a talent.
Gower didn't need much practice to bring out that talent, some do. Whether natural or not, it's all there and you can't make it by being mentally strong.

Domestic cricket is the lowest level at which the two game-forms are played concurrantly. Anything below that, we play only limited-overs cricket or the time-game rubbish we're sometimes forced to play.
Far more important than whether someone has the mental strength for internationals, which we'll find-out when they play at that level, is whether they've got the ability, which we can find-out before in most cases.
