A promising test series ends. We missed a lot of opportunities, especially when we had Pakistan 5-140 in their second innings.
Manjural Islam played a gem of an innings but unfortunately wasn't there at the end and Elias Sunny hogged the strike and saw us home for a draw.

Arif Ahmed returns from injury.

Various newspapers in Bangladesh have slammed the management and coaching of the bowling attack for being "too spin reliant" and the fast bowlers being nothing but park trundlers.
Unfortunately, there just aren't any class quicks coming through the ranks and about 75% of all bowlers available for picking are spin bowlers.

Ishraq Sonnet's captaincy has also come under scrutiny but the players and selectors are sticking with their most successful captain.

With another 3 match ODI series following the tests, coach Greg Thomas has launched an attack on the ICC for not giving Bangladesh extended series.
"We've come a long way and we deserve at least 3 tests or 5 ODI matches. We feel we can seriously compete with the worlds best and should be awarded accordingly" he said before the first ODI.

Arif Ahmed is being rested despite being back from injury and H Ismail is being given another run at opening.

Rajin Saleh returned to Bangladesh due to family business and Sadiqur Rahman replaces him, while Shafaq Al-zabir takes Anwar Hossains place.

Match Report: Stumps, Day One.

Bangladesh started the match extremely well with Smith falling to the bowling of Rasel on just the 3rd ball. After tight bowling from the pace bowlers the spinners took over and got on top of the West Indies batsmen who stumbled to 6 for 68 then 9 for 101. A last gasp from Bravo (40 from 84) saved them from total embarrassment.
West Indies grabbed revenge early, dismissing Nafees Iqbal for a golden duck (C&B Gordon) and Arif Ahmed going for 36 with the score on 68.

Match Report: Stumps, Day Two.
Having dismissed West Indies for just 145, the Bangladeshi batsman looked to get an early lead with rain clouds hovering. The going was tough however, on the dusty pitch, with Saleh adding just 7 to his overnight score. The batsmen battled tough with the Windies spinners who were dangerous, dismissing the batsmen before they could convert their starts into bigger scores. Halfway into the second session, the rain started to fall and play was called off for the day.
Elias Sunny remains not out 37.

Finally on day four, Bangladesh dismissed the Windies for 422 leaving them 310 for victory. Arif Ahmed was the only wicket to fall before stumps, Bangladesh still needing 247 for Victory.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Bangladesh vs West Indies. 2nd test.

An up and down test saw leads being exchanged and some great performances from both sides.
The West Indies elected to bat and got to 389 on the back of McClean's 141 helped along by Baugh down the order.
Rajin Saleh was unlucky to miss out on another century as the Windies kept Bangladesh to 303.
Bangladesh turned things around slightly by dismissing the Windies batsmen for less than 300 setting a target of 384.
The openers got us off to a good start (0-72) but then got themselves out 10 minutes before stumps on day four.
The rest of the order kept their heads about them, collecting runs calmy, whittling away at the total. With a session to go, Bangladesh needed 131 with Ishraq Sonet and Sadiqur Rahman at the crease.
The West Indies bowlers excelled in keeping the runs down forcing these two to start taking risks. There were a couple of dropped catches and LBW appeals but the continued on. With 3 overs remaining they needed just 15 runs.
The Windies spin bowlers managed to keep them to just a run in each of the last two overs, perhaps due to Sadiqur's inexperience, as Sonet looked on in pain as he played and missed and padded away.

The match was drawn but the series wasn't, the Windies taking it 1-0.

MOTM: S Mushtaq

Our batting woes continued (especially with in form batsman Saleh injured) and no-one looked comfortable. Sadiqur's 47 was very scrappy and off 211 deliveries.
Pakistan lost the last 6 wickets in their first innings for 26 runs, so that was also frustrating. Even more frustrating, our keeper being injured.

So for the next match I handed the gloves to Sadiqur Rahman as we don't really have any good replacement keeper/batsmen.

Atiqur Rahman was also recalled.

Bangladesh XI
1. Nafees Iqbal
2. Ishraq Sonet (c)
3. Aftab Ahmed
4. Manjural Islam

8. S Mushtaq
9. U Gul
10. F Masood
11. D Kaneria

We bowled well to dismiss the Pakistani's for just 268, Manjural the chief destroyer with a 5-fer.
Batting on an absolute turner, we looked in trouble once again, 5-109.
At the crease were Atiqur Rahman (23 tests) and Elias Sunny (22 tests). Both have not yet posted a century and I was doubtful, yet, they got their heads down and ground out superb centuries.
We took a bit longer to get Pakistan all out again, though only 4 of their batsmen reached double figures.
Set an even 200 for victory with a day and a half left I was a bit pessimistic. We could easily collapse for 180 like the previous match. And we did just that - 7-127 at Tea.

Luckily Arafat Sunny and Sadiqur Rahman kept their wits about them and got the runs in time to pull of an emotional victory.

Pakistan all out 268.

Bangladesh wins by 3 wickets.
MOTM: Elias Sunny.

Our batting performance is definately a worry, compared to strong performances of the last coupel of 'years'. Hopefully the next season is better than this (which ends after the 3 ODI series).

Elias Sunny passed 1000 runs with his 100, and 100 wickets with his 6-fer. :)

Bangladesh v Pakistan. 3 match ODI series.

Absolute shocker in the first game. I don't think Rezaul Haque batting at 10 has topped the scores too many times..

I may put more effort into ODI's and pick a ODI specialist team. Our openers averaged under 10 this year (4 different guys) and a couple of our middle order batsmen don't have great records...

1st ODI

Bangladesh 9 for 107 from 50 overs.
Rezaul Haque 23 N.O.
Manjural Islam 18
D Kaneria 3-17
F Masood 2-16

Pakistan 1 for 108 from 35.5 overs.
H Raza 40 N.O.
S Bin-nasir 35 N.O.

This ends probably the worst year for Bangladesh since I took over.

The 'star' performers of the year:

Tests:
Elias Sunny.
434 runs @ 62
28 wickets @ 22.86

Rajin Saleh.
402 runs @ 50.25

Manjural Islam.
38 wickets @ 22.87

ODI's:
Aftab Ahmed.
309 runs @ 51.50

Elias Sunny.
12 wickets @ 27.75

It's amazing how things change.
Last year Aftab Ahmed averaged 84.90 (849 runs) in tests with 3 centuries and 5 fifties.
This year he scored the one 50 in a total of 188 runs at 15.67, dropping his average to 42.

Nafees Iqbal's averaged dropped below 40 while Rajin Saleh and Elias Sunny both improved their average.

Rajin Saleh is the leading run scorer in tests. Manjural Islam is the leading wicket taker.
In ODI's Aftab Ahmed leads the runs and Manjural Islam has the most wickets, and is just 5 wickets away from being the first to reach 100 :)
