Aus XI- 3 no. 11's

Robinson also took the opportunity to question Australia’s batting depth, claiming the tourists have brought over “three No. 11’s” with Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland and Josh Hazlewood.

“It‘s something we spoke about as a group,” Robinson said. ”We said once we get past Cummins, we feel like they’ve got three No. 11s. It’s something that we can target through the series and try and wrap up their innings quite quick and try and give us that momentum into our batting innings.”

The only way they break that up is including the Wayward Mitch Starc(unlikely given how poor he did against India in WTC - Eng is much better side), or Neser/Abbott. But Haze if fit will always get the nod over those guys given his excellent Ashes record in 2019. Maybe if they rotate and use Neser soon, it will help balance the side. They will assess how they go in this test.
3 No.11's will eventually bite as the series goes on, by basic laws of mathematics and probability. Eng bat all the way to no.10 - Robinson.

It's true , but it was not something that needed to be said right now, I don't think Robinson thinks when he talks ..Just gave extra motivation to Australia's bowlers .

I don't think he's wrong on this one. The Boland wicket in particular was really poor and suspect they'll continue to get short stuff, even more so if Wood comes in at Lord's. Boland and Hazlewood would bat below Jimmy in England's team, Lyon is probably of similar standard.

He was asked a question, and answered it. Good on him. The Australian tail is an embarrassment to cricket and should be called out as such.

Isn't broad a number 11 now?

And Ollie's average is barely shaving hazlewood's.

If broad and Anderson weren't bunnies they'd not have declared before they had their tonk.

So douchbag Ollie bags Hazlewood, when his average, bolstered by his n.o. is basically the same batsman. He really needs to reign himself in.

Australia's tail is certainly one of the pissier ones I've seen, but England's last 3 are probably within a run of equality. Are they really lauding it?

The Australian tail is long, Lyon is 1 place too high at 9 and Cummins isn't the best number 8 in the world.

Our tail is only a bit better but I've no problem with Robinson calling their tail out - it's part and parcel of the game.

Lyons batting a bit underrated, he might have the worst technique but he gives it a slap now and then. A bit like trent boult

Both Broad and Robinson have the ability (on their day) to put an innings together like Cummins did yesterday. Hazlewood and Boland clearly do not.

The tails seem even for most countries for me whether you’re batting at like 8 or 11. Just shows if you take your time and have a decent defence you can sneak 20-30 runs here and there which England done both innings and Boland did as night watchmen.

it ain’t like the old days where the tail would come out and start swinging straight off and get bowled for nothing. These days most the tail can bat and shows how important it is to value your wicket and not give it away easily by just smacking it around from ball 1

I'm rather disappointed in Boland. It's been a long time since I'd seen an average that low.

But with the way Smith and labu have regressed, I'll take it.

Off track... Why is root not the #1 batsman? He has killed everyone everywhere in the last couple of years. No way our guys have done better.

i’ve said this before, but unless they’re equal in literally every other area it’s clownworld to select a bowler who is worse but can bat more over a bowler who is better as a general rule of thumb lol

like if you reckon starc or neser is a better fit than haze or boland or is less likely to get injured or what have you, absolutely, pick them (and i would’ve picked neser). don’t do it because of how it might shore up your number nine

Got to be honest, when I saw Boland turn up as Nightwatchman I thought "no way he's lasting 20 minutes". But then he batted very well. Suspect he'll get some short stuff when play starts today.
