Both are astute captains, and World cup winners. Both are middle order players who used to finish games.

I just feel that Steve Waugh will win this since Ranatunga is generally under-rated, in this forum and also elsewhere while Steve Waugh has an aura of being one of the most successful captains ever. But I do rate Ranatunga highly and my vote goes for him.

As batsmen, I would have to go with Ranatunga. Also played with the handicap of considerable non-contractile body tissue.

Yes, it is amazing that players like Ranatunga, Shane Warne and Inzamam were able to maintain such sustained excellence in spite of not being fit by the "definition". Rohit and Pant now carry forward the great tradition.

It was sad that Jesse Ryder wasn't able to have a 15-year international career.
