Funny. You haven't been here long enough. Just check the India-England series threads, and the amount of cribbing about Dhoni's comment on England players having a go at each other. Quite ironic that Indian media and fans were criticized for reacting to Vaughan's comments? Double standards much?

I don't mind all that cribbing about Dhoni's comments etc, I do mind when any complaints from Indian fans are viewed is hypersensitivity or lack of sense of humour, when in reality reaction of any team's supporters have been exactly identical to any snide remarks or pot shots.

And 'Indians' are a large diverse set, you realize?
Thought the abuse Bumble copped in twitter was quite atypical, who do they represent? And trolls like Vaughn, Tony Greig etc. have a great time baiting Indian fans because they're the only ones who seem to be jobless enough to respond to them in style? Not to mention people(BCCI, indian celebrities) trying to create an international incident out of a non-issue such as donkey-gate. Every reason to feel amused.

You have to understand the thinking of different cultures before you call something a non-issue. Most Indians thought calling someone a monkey is no big deal when that whole Bhajji-Symmo incident happened. I think different cultures have a different view on what's insulting and what's not. Being part of a global sport - cricket media can't help but be politically correct everytime. Good or bad - that's the world we've ended up in.

I agree each one of those things was silly. So were the couple of examples I gave you. You have to browse the threads around here to realize that pretty much every team's supporters react similarly to similar issues.

Yes, Indians are a more numerous and more passionate bunch when it comes to Cricket, and hence you see all those funny incidents of making a mountain out of a mole hill. But the small minority of supporters from other countries behave no different, they just aren't numerous enough. What you and others want to infer from these reactions about the culture of a whole country, and why it's so important for you and others to spend so much energy trying to figure out psyche of Indian fans is equally amusing to you.

Yes there is a lot of hero worship in India, I fail to see however why it should bother you so much as though it's the biggest tragedy the world is facing  I am even willing to have a serious discussion on why there is this level of hero worship (has to do with socio-economic context IMO), but I don't see any seriousness among people happy to generalize and criticize.

And there is hero worship in other parts of the world too. The crazy amount of love for late Michael Jackson is a case in point. So that's that. Trying to generalize and paint one entire nation (one of the largest and most diverse one at that) with the same brush only tells me you have no serious point to make.

That's not the point. The point is the blatant hypocrisy in proclaiming that Indian fans are over-sensitive, when the reaction from other posters on here are exactly the same, be it reaction to Dhoni's comments or to Turbi's swipe at England cricketers for their performance in the current series.
Nah, the Vaughan incident was an over reaction because Vaughan isn't affiliated with the English team any more. In this case it was the Indian captain who made the comments.

I still feel it's a non issue though and that there's no point pursuing the matter. This thread serves no purpose imo and the discussions aren't going anywhere, personally think it should be locked sooner rather than later.

I never touched on the lines of hero worship and such, yanks being one of the bigger culprits at that but merely saying it's just a damn game at the end of the day and why make a big fuss out of it.

Bold - Exactly my thoughts behind Indian fans obsession with sledging, bad boy, arrogance and what-not. Since you lot have quite a few them in your team as well nowadays.

I invite posters to feel free to consult Daemon on which media comments are worthy of a fan over-reaction and which ones are not.

He will be forum over-reaction police.

Not really. Don't you remember the 2003 WC final?

I do. No matter how wel Zaheer bowls int eh rest of his career, he will always be an utter chump for sledging Hayden and Gilchrist at the start of that game, while his feilders kept retrieving the ball from the boundary/ grandstands.

Comedy gold.
You are using an isolated incident and portraying it as a character of the team, which it is not.

If there is a team that used to sledge relentlessly it was the Aussies.

Let's just agree that everyone in cricket is a complete ****. Or no one is. Or somewhere in between.

I really can't see this going anywhere useful save for various fanbases to have potshots at each other, so in the locker it goes.
