If the 40s were so unprofessional why have Lindwall & Miller?

amz,

Why do you have Hadlee as captain? He never captained NZ in a test...

From that group I would have Crowe as captain, with assistance from Sutcliffe.

Miller and Lindwall were mostly 50s people, not 40s. They were at the cusp of the professional era and were so far ahead of their contemporaries that they get in....

Benchie....i picked Bill Lawrey...who would you pick ? justify.

My alltime English XI:

Herbert Sutcliffe
Geoff Boycott
W.Hammond
Ken Barrington
Ted Dexter *

Who else then? Allot based on one year? The combination of Dibbly-Dobbly-Wobbly-Wibbly whatever? Chatfield? Any pre-80 bowler?

Sorry for laughing at you but I would have Cowie, Motz, Collinge, Lance Cairns, Chatfield and even Shane Bond ahead of Morrison. Morrison was lucky to be around during a period when Hadlee had just retired and we had a severe lack of decent pace bowlers in the country and he was the best of a bad bunch.
Plus he's the most annoying TV and radio journalist this country has ever seen.
But you're entitled to your opinion.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, but nonwithstanding his speech failings, he was a pretty decent bowler and could even swing it.

Nah, he was ordinary. Far too short to be a decent fast bowler and couldn't bat or field. Out of all those players I've mentioned above he has the worst average and I would even throw in Taylor, Nash and Doull ahead of him.

even though he done well for NZ i don't reckon it's very fair to put donnelly in an NZ all-time XI when he only played 7 tests
