You jest, surely. There's loads of openers still unpicked who played in bad conditions with averages in the low 40s, and many more who played in better conditions with averages in the high 40s.

It's seriously improbable that none of them take their fancy to the extent that you're forced to go with someone like Gooch with a skewed record in favourable conditions who can still only muster an average of 42.

Gooch's work to WI is absolutely elite ****. Sehwag got voted ahead, comeon!

Love how Ranji is Bad, but Shrewsbury is Good

Ranji is better than Gooch too! Shrewsbury also has twice the longevity in terms of career length as Shrewsbury and a test career that isn't nearly as lopsided.

Yeah I'm not joking around lol. In fact it's hardly questionable given Sutcliffe's longevity, especially if you big-up May for his standardised average.

Turner and Dempster also better than Gooch.
