He had a bad series in South Africa but otherwise he averages 52 in West Indies, 45 in England and 43 in India. 40+ in 3/4 of the countries he has an okay sample size in. True HTB would be someone like Warner who sucked everywhere overseas other than one or two exceptions (South Africa, maybe Ban)
Does Jayawardene counts?

Jayawardene 59 at home 39 overseas = massive htb acknowledged by everyone

Lawry 55 at home 39 overseas = oh no Coronis, thats some CRAZY **** you be spouting
Tbh I think it's a way too simplistic approach. Jayawardene was Great in India and good in Pakistan, but legit sucked in SA, AUS and NZ, and averaged 35 in England against some pretty mid sides as well. Lawry only struggled in SA, he was good to very good in WI, ENG and India.

Lawry had one bad country out of the four where he played a decent amount of Tests.

Mahela had five bad countries out of the big eight he consistently toured and played a decent amount of Tests in. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe don't matter.

They are not the same.

Will just be off for me if there’s a gap between Tayfield and the likes of Ashwin, Verity, Grimmett and Laker, a group of bowlers to which he most certainly belongs
