Anyone you never saw in your lifetime is a wildcard,
We form an opinion looking at their outputs, footage etc. After looking at their outputs if anyone still think that player is a wildcard then that's a different situation.

I saw very little of Marshall, but he is not a wild card for me.

He is absolutely a wild card, you have no way of actually knowing how he bowled on a normal basis or how he compared to modern cricketers, everything is a wild card.

For me I am genuinely curious how he would turn out because if all claimed about him is true he would be a game changer. Imagine super leg cutters that also dip in the air.
I got your point first time. You were not genuinely curious about your other picks the same way as Barnes despite not having seen all picks. I was trying to convey that in previous comments but discussion went in different directions.

It's a wild card entry for you and I do see the point.

Yes, I think the reward of Barnes being potentially better than anyone is worth it.

Miller
Imran
Ambrose
Barnes
Murali

It would be interesting if they faced off in a 5 match test series in say, WI or England. I predict it would be close and go 3-2 in favor of the first XI based mostly on the Bradman factor.

Maybe someone can run a sim. Outside of that, the second XI has a more well rounded relentless attack which almost overcomes the batting disadvantage. The second XI is definitely willing a few tests

I have already explained. Miller is mostly used in situations like second new ball, roughing up bats with the shorter one, getting tails out, etc.

And he won't replace Murali overs but will be used when a spinner is not optimal. Early days of tests and pace friendly tracks.

Just dont be so bummed just because Kallis couldn't make it.
It has nothing to do with Kallis. That the difference between you and I. It's not personality based.

The fifth bowling role,.especially with this attack wouldn't get enough of the ball to justify the dropping of an ATG batsman.

And giving Miller the new ball over Ambrose or Barnes (shouldn't be there, but here we are), two of the best new ball bowlers ever, is a negative there as well.

And on top of it, to make it work, you also weaken the keeping..

So to get in a reluctant bowler, who will get limited overs and mostly in the dog overs, into the team you weaken your batting and keeping.

It doesn't make sense to me.

I hope Chappell doesn't make first five.
I think Pollock is rated higher here. We're definitely at point where my initial votes are going to be fringe a lot and I may change if it's close between two others. How many more times am I going to need to vote for Davidson, Mitchell and Waite already?
