All-Time World XIs: Discussion Thread

I would rather have Imran and McGrath mainly because of era variety but looking at it objectively Imran and Hadlee gives you an undeniable boost in the late order.

Btw I gave Kyear over a dozen examples where a super strong Aus 2000s side were bailed by their tail. And then if course SA 90s and India 2010s teams. He is wrong when he says that batting deep isn't an indicator of success.
Meh this team already has 3 Aussies from the same era. That would be a worse problem than 3 players from different teams if era was an issue.

With 3 players from the same era, you are basically just taking out an insurance policy against the era being soft. And it's a very expensive insurance policy when going with notably inferior players.

With 3 players from the same team, you also have the era issue, but with potentially more on top of it. Like the strength of the Aus top order demoralizing opposition, and #CheatingAussieUmpires. And without the upside of fielding a better player if none of this matters.

Ya, I saw those examples. You are preaching to the choir here

Wow so even though you admit it creates an less balanced pace attack you still won't select Imran. And to defend it you give the same stat ranking addict logic you are purportedly against.

That bias runs deep.
Dude, have you read the thread.

Between Hadlee and Imran, sure. McGrath for me is a non negotiable for the team.

Contrary to what you think, not everything is about Imran.

In Viv vs Smith, I truthfully don't really care who among them is in the XI, I am loving the contest. And you misunderstood my previous quote, I was thinking of reverting to Viv for fielding and record to pace, not the other way around. I had him in my XI till like a month ago as well.
I understood you, and agreed.

Viv's record vs pace and his clear superiority in the cordon and outfield are easy reasons for me to have him above Smith.

Smith's career not being done is another.

I was referring to the other comment when you said you really want Smith to win now.

That was because the tantrum being thrown around like how Viv shan't make the 2nd team et such

Again I'm not saying he isn't a better candidate than Smith, just that there's zero reason to vote for him in the second XI if he already lost in the first XI. That's like going in the Losers bracket.

Who do you prefer between Viv or Smith?

No. Hadlees record in wins is almost unparalleled, he kept NZ unbeaten at home and a top tier side and he didn't have the benefit of scoreboard pressure
NcGrath played in a flatter era and was better in said conditions.

McGrath was better at the top of innings and is clearly seen by many as the best new ball bowler ever. He also didn't get half the opportunities Hadlee had and took vs the tail.

Hadlee wasn't seen as one of the top two bowlers even when he played. Even Crowe went with Lillee and Marshall over him and was clear about that.

There isn't an article, interview where he's rated as the GOAT, heck even multiple AT XIs where he's featured.

I don't think he's in the same category as the top two.
