Rice didn't exactly get picked late in the draft, but I've noticed he is never quite as sought after as Procter when both are available, despite nearly identical FC stats(and playing together in county cricket for many years)

Those 7 tests made a world of difference to their reputations!

You have contextualise that a bit more. Procter was a bowling all rounder; Rice went under quite a bit of his career not bowling. He was never regarded as a top tier bowler as Procter was; who was compared with and actually have outperformed Imran Khan in the time period they played County together.

Hmmm, interesting. So despite 40/22 and 36/19 being their raw averages, Procter was an elite bowler and Rice was not an elite batter and that's why Procter gets the nod?

I guess Rice is more of a Keith Miller style all rounder. And a lot of people do consider Imran and Keith equal, the difference in batting covering the difference in bowling.
