Hill and MayYou mean Worrell and Hill?
You can't be serious mateGooch is better than de villiers, the quality of bolwers he faced is another level and abd didn't even played much in Wobble seam era.
I mean, if anybody rates Inzy ahead of ABD, don't know why he can't do that with Gooch, as Gooch is arguably better than Inzamam. You can't be serious mate
The only reason De Villiers doesn't avg more is that he was batted out of position, and had to open early on in his career. At 'his' position at no 5, he avgs 62.won't go that far but Harvey/May/Trumper/Boycott are definitively better than De Villiers, people mix up De Villiers and his one day/T20 antiques with what he was in test, in actuality he was a 50 avg bat who hid at 5 behind an ATG batting lineup and barely averaged 50, even though he retired prematurely to save his numbers, a thing more selfish than anything Boycott ever did for example. If he was some fat moustached Batsmen from Pakistan who didn't play one day or test and had that record, nobody would rate him highly frankly.
no way he's better than openers averaging 48 against dukes after 20 years of Cricket.
You can't be serious was for both combined.I mean, if anybody rates Inzy ahead of ABD, don't know why he can't do that with Gooch, as Gooch is arguably better than Inzamam.
Neil Harvey averages 137 at number 5, Peter May averages 58 at number 4, Frank Worrell averaged 64.6 ar #4/5 next. The only reason De Villiers doesn't avg more is that he was batted out of position, and had to open early on in his career. At 'his' position at no 5, he avgs 62.
Yeah agree tbh.You can't be serious was for both combined.

Peter May averages 58 at number 4, Worrell averages 65 in the 33 innings he played at 4/5, Once again, nothing special about De Villiers.Yes, in the grand total of 7 innings he played there
Clarke was a HTB. Not close to De Villiers. But only 3.9k runs
Clarke 5.9 k runs at 61 AVG is more impressiveView attachment 46440

so?May also avgs 25 in 10 inns at 5&6.
Similar numbers for worrell at 6-8.
They just happened to be at peak form when they batted at that particular number. It has nothing to do with the batting position in itself.
