A different side to Matthew Hayden

I don't get it...he sounds like every other good father in the world.

Still a hypocritical tosser in my book.

Haydos has always come across as a great guy, and this side of him doesn't across as a surprise to me, it might come as a surprise to many people who only see him as an arrogant huge lad who bullies bowlers from across the world.

I think you are a little confused as to why he is so hated around the world...

Nah... i am not confused at all about this, he's hated by lot of people across the world because they have got fed-up of watching this guy walk down the pitch and samsh their countries best bowlers to all parts of the ground!!

Off the field too Haydos is capable of coming up with gun quotes like this one:

"It was a bit distracting, actually. He had the Brad Hogg tongue in the side of the mouth."
Matthew Hayden
after facing a few deliveries from Kevin Rudd, Australia's Prime Minister

I think the point is that yeah, he might come across as a bit of a tool on the cricket field and doesn't always say the right things in the media (see the Weed interview), but at the end of the day he's just a regular guy and perhaps the hatred is unjustified, especially by those who take the sport a bit too seriously.

Surely the least popular player in world cricket. And it's not as simple as him scoring lots of runs against other teams. A fair number of players have done as much or more damage to opposing teams but I can't think of any of them that are as disliked as much as Hayden

Awesome interview, top bloke. I cant really see how anyone could ever "hate" him. He seems like the type of person that doesn't get too focused in his cricket. Kind of just live every day as it comes u know?

Can you give examples of how he has "damaged" other players?
I didn't say he had "damaged other players"! I said he had done damage to other teams. By which I mean that he's scored lots of runs against them, usually very quickly.

So your saying that other teams hate him for his scoring ability rather than his personality?

No worries!

Interested to read some supportive comments on Hayden btw. I've never liked the guy and he's clearly unpopular around the world but there are obviously some people in Australia and on this site who like him so I'm prepared to accept that he might actually be an alright bloke despite external appearances

Whatever it takes!!!
I have met him once and he came across as a pretty decent guy. The thing is he seems to get confused about quotes and interviews at times.. His gems like "Laxman is afraid of fast bowling" (cue a 500+ run series from Very Very Special in Australia) and the recent "weed" comments shows he is a bit of a dumbo at times..

The impression I get about him is that he is genuinely a nice bloke who just wants to be known as something else, a bit like SReesanth.. YOu get to see these guys away from the game and they come across as good, nice folks (although Sreesanth seems somewhat crazy at times) but on the field, it is not the same.. It is almost as if they are trying to be someone they aren't capable of being and they end up saying/doing stupid stuff which only winds the opposition up even more...

Definitely not the same category as Harbhajan or Symonds for me, who come across as genuinely difficult people...
