Jadeja's not that far off Ashwin as a bowling AR going by both of their contributions in Tests. So to me Cricinfo/Wiki tags aren't necessarily that helpful considering the loose standards.

Athlai

Not Terrible
Hes a genuinely good 8th batsman and a great bowler. Far better at bowling than any of these players are at one form of the game.

He has played 35 of the 57 away games India has had since his debut.
He missed

6matches vs Australia (played 10 would've got smashed in those 6too)
9 matches vs England (played 6, lets be honest he'd have smashed them)
2 matches in Saffa, played 6
2 matches in WI, played 4, would've smashed them
3 matches in NZ, played 2, would've smashed us

So really he's missing 8 matches in AU and SA that he'd have got like 30 @40 and 14 matches vs Eng/WI/NZ he'd have got like 60 @ 27

Dunno why you think that's so damning

because he was dropped for half his away games for jadeja to be the lead spinner.

he wouldn't have taken wickets in aus, sa or here. he also didn't take them in aus, sa or here for most of his career. fingerspinners don't, and he doesn't strike me as having something herath etc don't.

england maybe, because they were in a lull. they've also handed out some pretty solid smokings to india during his career tho.

Jayasuriya also criminally underrated. I know he was only a bowler in Asia and Africa but what a weapon he was there. Definitely worth talking about in the same breath as blokes like Vettori who were more situationally allrounders.

Asia/Africa only

Jayasuriya 5667 @ 42.29
91W @ 30.70

Everywhere Else

1306 @ 32.65
7W @ 81.71
I would say criminally under bowled himself. Given the craftiness how showed in limited overs games and the variations of pace, flight, and spin he possessed, could have bowled lot more. Teams like West Indies or South Africa would have had him as the sole spinner in their sides between 1995 - 2005 time period.

Ashwin is quite literally on par with Shaun Pollock on the other thread in terms of output per Test in both disciplines, so this general underrating is bizarre. What exactly is the standard for any form of all-rounders that's being used here?
Ashwin with the ball is par with pollock. But different kettle of fish with the bat. Pollock could score against any type of bowling on any wicket. He was a complete batsman who was good enought to bat as a middle order bat.

Doesn't seem to be that complete considering he's barely making a run more than Ashwin overall on an average outing.

And the general dissing of Ashwin as an AR without anything substantial is hilarious but hardly convincing.

Ashwin is light years better than Watson. He's the best player in this poll.

I refuse to vote because this is clearly a ploy to get me to vote for Vettori in something though 10th best all rounder in 30 years isn't particularly prestigious. Ashwin, Cairns, Flintoff and maybe McMillan are the only good cricketers on this poll. Holder has basically become Woakes of late. Sigh.

gonna stick up for Oram a bit.

5 tons. Australia, England, South Africa (twice) and the Bangers. 97 against Pakistan.

Averaged the same home and away, with more away tons (Aus, Eng, SA). Did not like Murali though. For a man who put Warne on the roof of whatever aus ground it was, he haaaated Murali.

Bowling is pretty reliable, 2wpm stuff, consistently fine against everyone.

Honestly, I'd have him back. It's a shame his eyes went so drastically in his early 30s which caused the batting average to 'collapse' to 36, but he was a quality player from 2002 - 2008 and it's not like we're pumping him as the best allrounder of his era, just one of the really good ones.
