Switched off as soon as the final wicket fell, what actually happened to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy? Is the title still vacant as it’s the first time they’re doing an Ashes-style series, or were India considered the ‘holders’ of it as they’d won the previous India-England series in India?

I think his alliance to Australia matters not a jot in this instance. Dawson, Bashir, Rehan. Pick who you want, none of them will make a jot of difference with the ball.
I like Rehan the best out of that lot, received wisdom suggests Dawson, who has the best chance of keeping things tight as well as contributing with the bat, should be picked, but it’s obviously going to be Bashir

He is also super patriotic and super hates England, in case you haven't noticed. :p
I'm not sure he does anymore. He pointed out that he'd have Starc's rough to bowl into amongst other things and that Aus currently have 5 left handers. It made sense.

The bigger issue for me is that spinners had little impact on the BGT and if wickets are the same, we're better off picking one who can bat and hold an end. That would be Dawson.

nah come on now, Strauss (and later Cook)'s England were so much more than that. I have them as the 4th best test side I have seen, behind the 00s Aussies, Smith's RSA and Kohli's India. And they are bloody close to 3rd even in that list.
they came immediately out of becoming world #1, got dashed 3-0 by pakistan, drew 1-1 in sri lanka then lost at home to south africa. england get to the top very occasionally for a brief period of time then fall back to default settings.

07-11 India were also great (between the two WCs)

Series wins in Eng/NZ. Draw in SA/SL. Won/drew everything at home. Two test maces.

Tongue took 19 wickets in 3 games and averaged 29, first two games being on roads too, he is not to be blamed albeit he is an erratic inaccurate bowler who just happens to have talent.
