4th Test (Old Trafford, Manchester) - 23rd to 27th of July

King Kane

International Vice-Captain
England have to be favourites for the win now with Rahul gone and Jofra getting Gill out just before lunch and almost getting Jadeja out as well.

There are still questions about whether Pant will bat but you think he would if India need him to bat and they probably will with two sessions left.

Pant seems the sort of guy that would still go out there to bat even if he was hopping on one leg.

The only good thing that can come out of this imminent defeat is hopefully some changing of course for India. Because they need it desperately. No doubt there is talent and determination. But regardless of this result, you can't expect to win matches by making this many errors, especially on the low hanging fruit of test cricket. This includes lapses in concentration around breaks, dropped catches/misfields, run out chances, weak bowling attacks full of bits and pieces all rounders discarded while on the field, spin being used as an afterthought (with the best of them warming the benches), failure to respect the good balls, etc.

Wonder what gill's test average is if you exclude test's vs baz-stokes england? He's averaging 100 this series and made 452 runs @55 last time they toured india. That's 9 test's, 1200 runs @~75 odd and 6 of his 9 test hundreds.

Fantastic knock from Shubman. But with him out, India's chances of saving this test are bleak.
It's just so damn frustrating to see them not learn from their mistakes in many areas. You have to remain focused when batting around a break. And that was an almost nothing ball outside off from Archer. Only swung marginally away. All things considered, it was largely the bowling that cost India, rather than the batting. But these missing the "one percenters" adds up over time.

Ultimately, Gill can score 1000 runs or more in a test series, but it's meaningless without it being in a winning cause. No one will remember his performance like they will with Joe Root and Ben Stokes.

True. Gill was playing pretty much flawlessly except for the couple of catch drops till that point. Threw his wicket in a crucial moment.
