They were ranked 1 in Tests in the early 2010s thoughA bit off topic, but I feel India over the last year or two have gone in the same direction as the early 2010s. Very strong and successful in ICC trophies (excluding WTC), but pretty pathetic in test cricket, especially overseas.
How is that even mathematically possibleJoe Root will still average 50+ after The Ashes even if he doesn't score another run from now until then. [/USER]
really? cause they lost away to australia and look like they may lose away to england? two very difficult places to tour. recent track record in australia is obviously very good but 3 on the bounce there is unheard of and they haven't won in england since 2007?A bit off topic, but I feel India over the last year or two have gone in the same direction as the early 2010s. I changed my opinion recently tbf. Well done to him. I rate him as an ATG. The Aus posters are the ones who genuinely think he’s mediocre though.Joe Root will still average 50+ after The Ashes even if he doesn't score another run from now until then. Wasn't that something you were certain wouldn't happen @PlayerComparisons
It's not, I ****ed up the numbersHow is that even mathematically possible
Wouldn't pay too much attention to rankings, to be honest. They were pretty poor and let games drift away overseas, and England crushed them at home in 2012They were ranked 1 in Tests in the early 2010s though
on a serious note, he's a big upgrade over the likes of Ian Ward in the comm box.Ponting decided to show up to watch his run tally get passed
Still, I think a team of India's quality can do much better than they have on those "difficult places to tour". If you look at how much talent they have, they could easily make almost 3-4 good teams. But as Michael Vaughan (whom I don't always agree with) said after their WTC final defeat 2 years back, India have underachieved.really? cause they lost away to australia and look like they may lose away to england? two very difficult places to tour. recent track record in australia is obviously very good but 3 on the bounce there is unheard of and they haven't won in england since 2007?
only the NZ series in 2024 was really 'unforgivable'.
I must ask, does Gill even know Sundar and Jadeja exist? The time to bowl Sundar was at the last session of yesterday. I mean, he was the best bowler for India at Lords and yet he's just in the field? Garbage stuff. This is hard to watch. The one thing that gets my goat with both Rohit and now, Gill (and to an extent, Virat before that) is how they waste some of the bowling resources they have. The whole ****ing point of having 6 bowlers is to use all of them when the main guys are having a bad day. The fact that Shardul did not bowl till 40+ overs at Leeds in the first innings and Washy (fresh off a 4fer last time he bowled) did not bowl till 60+ overs in this innings shows, no matter how many options you have, if the captain has no idea how to use them, they are always wasted.
'Mediocre' is a bit harsh.I changed my opinion recently tbf. Well done to him. I rate him as an ATG. The Aus posters are the ones who genuinely think he’s mediocre though.
i think too many people buy into this idea india could put out 3-4 test teams. its just not true.Still, I think a team of India's quality can do much better than they have on those "difficult places to tour". They used the same excuse of the team being in a "developing phase" when they failed on their England tour in 2018. Such a pathetic reason to give, something not even Sri Lanka or Zimbabwe use to hide behind. These guys just don't know how to think. Even in earlier years, their fast bowling was rock solid, but the tail would wag and their batting failed in overseas conditions barring Australia. India have been an overhyped team for quite a while. And I say this as an Indian fan.i think too many people buy into this idea india could put out 3-4 test teams. its just not true.
how many times i've seen people refer to them on this tour as a 'young team', 'new team' etc. in white ball i think the argument stands up but this test alone shows its nonsense with thakur and kamboj stinking the place out. imagine the second/third team bowlers behind these lads....
Big assumption with the way they’re batting!Root is an all time great batsman and is deserving of 3rd place on the all time greatest run scorers list but he still needs to score a test ton in Australia.
He probably only has ten chances left with the next Ashes tour, assuming that he gets to bat twice in all 5 tests down under.
