1 day, round 7 match reports

Warwickshire kept the division 1 dream alive with a remarkable victory over NSW in Sydney. After opting to bat first NSW made 285/7. Warwickshire were kept in the game by a determined Ben Gregson (5/59) who took 5 wickets. What makes this display remarkable was the fact Gregson had never taken more than 2 wickets in a one day match before in nearly four season of WCC. With spectulation over his future at Warwickshire it was a timely display from one of Warwickshire longest serving players.

Warwickshire's innings took on a resemblance of what has been their one day season so far. They crashed to 67/5 with hope pretty much lost and down the ****hole. Mitchell Dowla was joined by Jermaine Bradshaw was the pair pushed the score up to 181, before Dowla fell for 64, only to be followed next ball by Hameed. However, Bradshaw wasn't about to give up. With the help of Ismael Nelson (32 off 29) they surged on. Having just brought up what was undoubtly the best one day century in Warwickshire's WCC history Bradshaw watched on as Nelson was dismissed and quickly followed by Gregson. 259/9 with Warwickshire looking screwed again as Bulbeck headed out to the wicket. 26 runs still required. What followed will live in the memories of Warwickshire fans for quite sometime as Bradshaw proceeded to take the New South Wales bowlers apart seeing Warwickshire home with a ball to spare. Bradshaw scored 128 off only 108 balls.

With the win Warwickshire move off the bottom of the table and up to 5th. They sit only one point behind NSW and Lancashire. The final two rounds certainly promise a lot.

Karachi played well... the 4th and 5th bowling option is still a worry and because of that WP were able to chase down our 260 with a few overs to spare.... Karach are now struggling to regain form and cement 2nd spot.

Yorkshire pull off upset win.
Yorkshire showed hope of improving and maybe even making the play offs for next division with a thumping victory over Queensland.

Yorkshire batted first and the openers were out cheaply, the score 2-5. Tendulkar (77) and Boxall (53) then put on a 100 run partnership to bring Yorkshire back into the game. Things looked shaky when Weir was dismissed for a first ball duck after Boxall's dismissal. In their last season, Hamilton (31) and Simpson (45) both played great innings steering Yorkshire to 269 all out. C Shreck from Qld grabbed 5 for 63.

Yorkshire needed to bowl well to keep the table leaders down and it wasn't going well at 0 for 112 before Bhandari struck quickly removing Yashpal (40) and Bundela for a duck. Keegan (66) and Hodgson (32) saved Qld from humiliation as Hamilton (3-37) and Gough (4-28) ripped through the rest of the line up, Queensland all out for 191.

After the match Yorkshire coach Greg Thomas said "this was a vital game for us. It's obvious we've been strugglign and now we can see who's going to stay on at Yorkshire and who'll definitely get the kick. We have high hopes now of making the top two in one day".

Tasmania walked over an underperforming Mashonaland side today, making the fight to avoid the chance of relegation almost impossible.

Mashonaland were all out for a miserable 99, with only three players getting double figures, and all the Tassie bowlers sharing the wickets, although Sammels stood out with 3/23.

Tasmania reached the total in only 17 overs, although veteran Mashonaland spinner Mushtaq made them fight for it, taking 4/19 off his five overs, but he received no support, especially with Ramanayake's three overs going for 34. Tasmania ended up on 101/6 with Rowell (29 from 10) and Symonds (25 from 24) both making valuable scores.

Mashonaland 99
Arnold 39*, Ul-Haq 21
Sammels 3/23, Rice 2/13, Pascoe 2/15

Tasmania 101/6
Rowell 29, Symonds 25*, Pascoe 19*
Mushtaq 4/18, Burns 1/26

The crowd at St Lawrence Ground got a 50 % refund following only 27 overs of cricket, after Kent's batting line-up committed hara-kiri after accurate, fierce bowling from South Australia. Seven batsmen were out in single figures, no bowler averaged less than 17 (James Anderson, who conceded a lot of runs amid the wickets of French and Richards), and Nisar's hat-trick wrapped Kent up nicely, as they squeaked to 72 all out. Keith van Jaarsveld wrapped up the innings nicely with a stunning unbeaten 42, having Stratton for breakfast as his swing bowling went completely awry, and South Australia won by nine wickets inside 11 overs.

All in all, an entertaining night out for South Australia, who continue to hunt one-day glory. It appears fixed now that Karnataka and South Australia shall play off for the victory, as all the closest contenders lost and South Australia now have a three-point gap. South Australia will be looking to sweep aside Lancashire at Old Trafford, as a loss could well see them out of the running for the title - Karnataka still squeezing onto the table lead, holding it by two points, despite their lack of a determined manager.

Worcestershire came very close to really strengthening their chances for promotion in a bizarre game against ACT. Both teams decided that they would just score really slowly and not lose wickets, for a bit of a laugh. Worcestshire casually batted out their 50 overs, scoring 219, 8 runs short of ACT's 227.
