Upper Body have found a way back into this game but they need to keep taking wickets. Masters XI well in charge still with the required rate under 7. Williams returns...
10.1 Williams to Benkenstein, SIX, Not the start Williams hoped for, but the Masters just keep going at Upper Body. Benkenstein got all of a short long-hop and desposited it in the stands at midwicket. 10.2 Williams to Benkenstein, 0 runs, Great comeback by the spinner. A clever googly to keep Benkenstein honest. 10.3 Williams to Benkenstein, 0 runs, Floated in but Benkenstein didn't take the bait. He just blocked it back down the pitch. 10.4 Williams to Benkenstein, 0 runs, A touch short, but Benkenstein missed the cut shot and Fitzsimmons collected well. 10.5 Williams to Benkenstein, 0 runs, Flat and it didn't turn and Benkenstein watchfully defended. 10.6 Williams to Benkenstein, SIX, A bit of flight and Benkenstein sent it just over Murphy's head at deep cover. Stunning shot. End of over 11 (12 runs) - Masters XI 118/3 [54 needed from 54 balls] DM Benkenstein 14* (9b) R Williams 2-0-24-1 JM Kemp 3* (3b) Another change by Patrick, with Camps presumably being saved for the business end of the run chase. He would hope it goes that far, however. Gonzalez is on for the first time. 11.1 Gonzalez to Kemp, 3 run, Pushed to long-off for a single, but they get 2 overthrows. Messy stuff. 11.2 Gonzalez to Benkenstein, 0 runs, Good line and length and watchfully defended. 11.3 Gonzalez to Benkenstein, 0 runs, Much of the same from both parties. Benkenstein taking his time to observe the new bowler. 11.4 Gonzalez to Benkenstein, 0 runs, Another calm defensive stroke. Benkenstein knows there's no rush. 11.5 Gonzalez to Benkenstein, BEATEN!, A big shot attempted there, but it just zipped between bat and pad and somehow missed the stumps. 11.6 Gonzalez to Benkenstein, 1 run, A deft delection for a single. End of over 12 (4 runs) - Masters XI 122/3 [50 needed from 48 balls] DM Benkenstein 15* (14b) JP Gonzalez 1-0-4-0 JM Kemp 6* (4b) McNamara replaces his fellow left-armer... 12.1 McNamara to Benkenstein, 0 runs, A firm drive by Benkenstein, but straight to mid-on. Patrick has the fielder in the circle, looking for some aggressive shots. 12.2 McNamara to Benkenstein, 0 runs, Again he finds the mid-on fielder. He's starting to look a bit frustrated. 12.3 McNamara to Benkenstein, 1 run, Benkenstein swept for a single. 12.4 McNamara to Kemp, 0 runs, Flat and into legstump and defended by the batsman. 12.5 McNamara to Kemp, BEATEN!, Great bowling! Some flight and enough turn to beat Kemp's drive. 12.6 McNamara to Kemp, 1 run, Easy drive to long-off. End of over 13 (2 runs) - Masters XI 124/3 [48 needed from 42 balls] DM Benkenstein 16* (17b) JP McNamara 2-0-12-0 JM Kemp 7* (7b) Another change. Patrick needs a wicket. 13.1 Patrick to Kemp, SIX, He didn't middle the pull shot but it still cleared the man on the boundary. Kemp looking to turn on the power. 13.2 Patrick to Kemp, 1 run, Again he didn't time it properly, and it's a good thing too, as it dropped a couple of feet short of Murphy at long-off. 13.3 Patrick to Benkenstein, 1 run, The strike rotated again with another easy single to long-off. Patrick needs to do something about that. And he does so immediately. Long-off into the circle. 13.4 Patrick to Kemp, OUT, Big big wicket! And at a big big time! Patrick got the yorker right and Kemp had no answer. Struck on the toe and comfortably in front. JM Kemp lbw b Patrick 14 (10) Partnership 25 (DM Benkenstein 11, JM Kemp 14) Upper Body 132/4 (13.4 overs) 13.5 Patrick to Hinds, 2 runs, He's away immediately with a straight drive. Some great running to get two, but Murphy wasn't the quickest running around to field. 13.6 Patrick to Hinds, OUT, Patrick is making this happen for his team! He's pulled out another one with his last ball! Wavell Hinds went for the big drive and only succeeded in nicking to the 'keeper. Another safe hold by Fitzsimmons there. WW Hinds c Fitzsimmons b Patrick 2 (2) Partnership 2 (DM Benkenstein 0, WW Hinds 2) Upper Body 134/5 (13.6 overs) End of over 14 (10 runs) - Masters XI 134/5 [38 needed from 36 balls] DM Benkenstein 17* (18b) NL Patrick 4-0-35-2 MJ Prior 0* (0b) 14.1 McNamara to Benkenstein, 0 runs, More good flight and turn by McNamara and Benkenstein showed suitable respect. 14.2 McNamara to Benkenstein, 1 run, Down the track and settling for a single to long-off. 14.3 McNamara to Prior, BEATEN!, He just poked at that one and it turned past the outside edge. McNamara is looking a real threat here. 14.4 McNamara to Prior, 0 runs, Good respect shown this time. Defending it back to the bowler. 14.5 McNamara to Prior, 2 runs, Nice use of the feet to work the ball to the deep on the legside. Two runs to ease some of the pressure. 14.6 McNamara to Prior, OUT, Upper Body go up again with another big wicket! The tactics work. Mid-on was in the circle and Prior took up the challenge to hit against the spin, but could not clear Patrick. Good safe catch and the Masters are struggling now. MJ Prior c Patrick b McNamara 2 (4) Partnership 3 (DM Benkenstein 1, MJ Prior 2) Upper Body 137/6 (14.6 overs) End of over 15 (3 runs) - Masters XI 137/6 [35 needed from 30 balls] DM Benkenstein 18* (20b) JP McNamara 3-0-15-1 TM Odoyo 0* (0b)

An interesting choice here. Gonzalez is back...
15.1 Gonzalez to Benkenstein, 2 runs, He unpacked the paddle sweep for 2 runs. 15.2 Gonzalez to Benkenstein, 0 runs, Fired into the blockhold and he could only dig it out to the bowler. 15.3 Gonzalez to Benkenstein, BEATEN!, This is getting frustrating for Benkenstein. Again he can't get the ball away, beaten outside offstump. 15.4 Gonzalez to Benkenstein, 1 run, Full and straight and again he digs it out. It beats the bowler though, and they scamble a run. This is excellent from Gonzalez. 15.5 Gonzalez to Odoyo, FOUR, What pressure? Odoyo starts with a bang. He smashed that square on the offside and it whistled to the fence. 15.6 Gonzalez to Odoyo, 1 run, A firm push for a single to end the over with the strike. End of over 16 (8 runs) - Masters XI 145/6 [27 needed from 24 balls] DM Benkenstein 21* (23b) JP Gonzalez 2-0-12-0 TM Odoyo 5* (2b) In the search for wickets, here's Maina... 16.1 Maina to Odoyo, 2 runs, Lovely cover drive but he won't get a boundary. Kept to 2 runs. 16.2 Maina to Odoyo, 2 runs, Another one and again Williams runs around to cut it off. 16.3 Maina to Odoyo, SIX, Big shot! He easily cleared midwicket with that one. 16.4 Maina to Odoyo, 0 runs, Good yorker and he dug it out. 16.5 Maina to Odoyo, FOUR, He tried for the yorker again, but it slipped down the legside and tickled fine for a big boundary. 16.6 Maina to Odoyo, 1 run, Good firm drive for a single. End of over 17 (15 runs) - Masters XI 160/6 [12 needed from 18 balls] DM Benkenstein 21* (23b) AEK Maina 3-0-39-0 TM Odoyo 20* (8b) That was a poor over by Maina. But here's McNamara with the last throw of the dice for Upper Body... 17.1 McNamara to Odoyo, 2 runs, And he's away with a clever flick past short fine leg for 2 runs. 17.2 McNamara to Odoyo, WIDE, He tried to do it again, but it beats him and the legstump. 17.2 McNamara to Odoyo, 0 runs, Left alone as it turns outside offstump. Interesting tactic! 17.3 McNamara to Odoyo, BEATEN!, He went for the cut shot and it bounced over his flashing blade. 17.4 McNamara to Odoyo, BEATEN!, Odoyo trying to do it all here! He missed a big slog sweep attempt and Fitzsimmons flashes a wry smile. 17.5 McNamara to Odoyo, 0 runs, Defended this time. That's the end of an excellent spell from Jack McNamara. Will it prove a match-winning one? We wait to see. 17.6 McNamara to Odoyo, GONE!, He's got another one! This is coming undone quickly for the Masters. That was a clever arm ball by McNamara and Odoyo was caught on the back foot. TM Odoyo lbw b McNamara 22 (14) Partnership 26 (DM Benkenstein 3, TM Odoyo 22) Upper Body 163/7 (17.6 overs) End of over 18 (3 runs) - Masters XI 163/7 [9 needed from 12 balls] DM Benkenstein 21* (23b) JP McNamara 4-0-18-2 SK Warne 2* (5) The new man is the vice-captain. But first, here's Maina again. Patrick doesn't have much choice with his bowling options at this stage. The field is in. Only 2 men outside the circle - deep midwicket and long-on. 18.1 Maina to Benkenstein, FOUR legbyes, That slipped onto the pads and Benkenstein tried to flick it. It just beat the diving Fitzsimmons and goes away for four. The bowler has his head in his hands. That is not the start his captain needed. 18.2 Maina to Benkenstein, BEATEN!, Great comeback. A legcutter that had Benkenstein beaten all ends up. 18.3 Maina to Benkenstein, 0 runs, Pitched up and driven, but brilliantly fielded by Murphy at mid-off. 18.4 Maina to Benkenstein, BEATEN!, The game is getting a bit tighter now. Lovely ball. 18.5 Maina to Benkenstein, 1 legbye, On the pads again and they get another legbye. 18.6 Maina to Warne, 2 runs, He shuffled across his stumps and turned that fine. Good running for 2 runs. The equation is a lot more comfortable now. The end of a very poor spell and now Masters XI are well and truly on the verge. End of over 19 (7 runs) - Masters XI 170/7 [2 needed from 6 balls] DM Benkenstein 21* (28b) AEK Maina 4-0-41-0 SK Warne 2* (1) Upper Body need a miracle. Here's Camps... 19.1 Camps to Benkenstein, FOUR, It's all over! There is no miraculous comeback. Camps missed the yorker and Benkenstein smacked the ball back past him for a boundary to win it. Masters XI have risen from the dead in this competition, and now they're into the final. End of Match (4 runs) - Masters XI 174/7 DM Benkenstein 25* (29b) LA Camps 3.1-0-39-1 SK Warne 2* (1) |
