Garven and Raftery. Bat better.

Haha, trying! Only had 3 OD bats in my career, just getting used to the pace.

Could do with finding consistency in the FC arena. Nice ton, good half, nowt much else.

Masters XI v Cricket Web Red
Casston Reserve

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

The Masters XI failed to score at 4 runs an over when they needed to chase a small total against Cricket Web Red on day five. The target was only 155 from 44 overs, but negative tactics by Sean Bennett and the Red seamers cramped the batsmen for room and held the innings to 13 runs short.

Only Rob Dauth stood up for the Reds on day one, scoring 69 after Mork won the toss and batted first. At times he looked unbeatable, so it took a brilliant bit of fielding by Wavell Hinds to run him out. The wicket column was dominated by Boyd Rankin and Shane Warne, who shared 6 wickets in the innings of 258 all out. The Masters XI then faced 17 overs before the close and scored 66 for the loss of Hinds (11).

There were several interruptions for weather on day two, hindering the rhythm of the CW Red bowlers and allowing the Masters batsmen to take control of the game. The towering middle order trio of Brian Lara, Damien Martyn and Inzamam-ul-Haq combined for three hundreds and almost 400 runs in total. Martyn was the top contributor of the bunch, lasting 327 balls. The dominance took shape at 417-3 when Clapham pulled things back. With his left-arm seam bowling he had removed Lara earlier for 108 and found the leading edge of Martyn for 151. Clapham went on to take 7 wickets in the innings, finishing with a career-best of 7-120.

CW Red addressed a deficit of 267 in their second turn, starting by facing 7 overs before lunch on day four. So often the match-saving hero, Aseem Sharma flicked Warne to Heath Streak at midwicket for 23. And when Mork was caught at slip for 26 less than 3 overs later, the Reds faced an uphill struggle from 52-2. Rob Dauth again came together with Jamee Gray in the most desperate of circumstances. And again they played a beautiful rearguard highlighted by caution and largely without error. Their partnership of 177 infused hope into the innings and was the backbone of a total of 421.

Dauth (103) scored a third first-class hundred of the season, all of which have come in the second innings. Half-centuries from Jamee Gray (69), Callum Thompson (76) and Gaurav Nayak (58) were also influential. For Thompson and Nayak it was an exercise in the counterattacking fightback, as they faced 88 balls and 36 balls respectively. But although it was far less exciting, the batting of Bennett was just as important. He batted for 145 balls, and though he only scored 30 runs, he helped take the game deep enough into the fifth day to give CW Red a chance.

The Masters XI set out to chase down the small target against bowling that quickly shifted from attack to desperate defense. Ed Smith dropped anchor with 59 but Lara could not master the bowling as needed and struggled through his innings of 35. For the last 10 overs the requirement was whittled down to 40 runs and the Reds shifted further into defensive mode. Bennett fired the ball into the rough way outside legstump and the batsmen struggled to get it away for runs. At the other end Thompson bowled a full length outside offstump to a strictly set field. The two combined to deny the Masters XI a likely victory.

Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Black
Pickford Reserve

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Two organized innings by debutant Luke Tyson were hugely influential in Cricket Web Blue gaining an unlikely draw against Cricket Web Black. Again the Black spinners struggled to make best use of a day five pitch, and CW Blue managed to bat 145 overs and finished the game 143 runs short of their fourth innings target but with 3 wickets still intact. Of a total of 302-7, Tyson faced 77 balls and scored a crucial 18 not out.

At the start of the game CW Blue started the stronger team by running out Ashley Arnold for 1 in the second over. Former Blue batsman Andrew Cloete was dropped twice before he got to 30, and he and James Stedman proceeded to bat into the final session of the day. Cloete (129) was good enough to add more than a hundred from runs to his score, before he feathered a ball down the legside to be caught behind. He left Stedman on 99 at the time. The opening batsman, who has struggled to establish himself in first-class cricket, swept Gooljar for a single in the next over and raised the first of two hundreds in the game.

Aside from the twin hundreds at the top of the innings there was little else on show by CW Black. Only two others scored double figures, including Nick Borcich who was the third highest scorer with 28. CW Black scored 354 and 9 of the wickets were shared among Demeza, Collins and Fuller. The PDV Dome pitch seemed to be assisting the fast bowlers as traditionally expected, so it was with great shock that CW Blue were overwhelmed by the legspin of Neil Pickup. He shot past his previous season best of 4-35 and onto a 6-wicket haul, including the top five batsmen in the order.

The Blues were shot out for 264 and only achieved so many because of the resilience of Liam Camps and Stephen Young. After Sean Fuller was caught-and-bowled for an 18-ball duck, the Blues were 90-4, but the fifth wicket partnership supplied a crucial 98 runs to the total. Young hit two sixes in 49, but his was not a flashy innings but rather determined and gritty. Camps scored 58 and put on another 20 runs with Tyson then he was caught at second slip off Patrick. Tyson was then made to bat with the tail and his team still trailing by 146 runs. The one chance he offered was very difficult on 19, and he batted impressively otherwise to score a 64 on debut.

The 90 runs that separated the teams were hardly improved when Arnold was bowled for 2 - his second failure of the game. But again it looked as though the second wicket stand would run away with the game for CW Black. The script was similar, but not quite the same. Cloete was trapped lbw when he need 2 runs to seal another hundred. Stedman, however, grabbed his opportunity and deftly cut Sriram for a single and celebrated his second ton. Ultimately he played on to Demeza for 122, but the damage was long done. The final steps of CW Black domination were taken by Alex Blackman and Ash Chaulk, both scoring unbeaten fifties and taking the score to 364 with a partnership of 103.

The final innings of the match was always expected to be a patient display and the bulk of this responsibility fell into the inexperienced hands of Stephen Young. Two balls into his innings he edged a drive off Borcich and was put down by Blackman in the slips. He was dropped twice more in his innings, including a simple chance on 95. Five singles later he dropped to his knees and kissed the pitch with a maiden century to his name. The bulk of his runs were scored with Fuller at his side, as the allrounder lasted 283 balls before he was run out for 76. As Pickup trapped Young for 141 it gave the Blacks just over 30 minutes to complete a victory. They started the mini-session with the bat-pad wicket of Gooljar - completing a pair - but could not do so much as beat the bat after that.

Adam Collins pushed forward consistently and resolutely for 22 balls in scoring 1 run. His was the support needed by Tyson, who also only scored a run over his last 20 balls.

Cricket Web Black 1st Innings 354 all out
Cloete 129, Stedman 114, Collins 3-64, Fuller 3-67

Cricket Web Colts v Cricket Web Green
Fardin Qayyumi CC

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Andrew Garven scored a determined 92 to rescue his team from defeat. Garven and the weather were the key players in a last day battle to achieve a draw. The Colts scored 420-9 declared and left Cricket Web Green with 4 overs and a day to survive. Rain and bad light eliminated 12 overs from day five, and Garven batted for 132 balls to compensate for a lacklustre middle order showing.

CW Green chose to bat first after winning the toss on day one. Despite heavy cloud cover the pitch was expected to play well for batsmen, so it was with grave disappointment that the Greens only managed 192. In the first innings too Garven was the brightest light for his team. He attacked the bowlers through 71 off 98 balls, topscoring while Greg Thomas and Kyle Wright shared 7 wickets.

The Colts lost 3 for 62 in their turn at the crease, then Daniel Towns (67) and Shan Jasotharan (62) lifted spirits with a 98-run partnership. Kerr replaced Jasotharan shortly before tea on day three and he and Towns survived the 6 overs that the weather allowed in the final session. The ball darted around on day four, but the Greens only took two of fours chances, dropping two catches. CW Green struck back hard with quick wickets in the afternoon session, shifting the focus of responsibility to the shoulders of Nick Hancock. He responded well enough to play a 251-ball innings and score 81 not out. The declaration only came in the last half-an-hour of the day, so the Colts left themselves 4 overs before stumps.

CW Green went to the close on 22-0. Chances were frequent on the final day, but wickets were few and far between until the third session. The Greens resumed after tea at a score of 100-2, though 56 overs were left in the game. CW Colts took 6 wickets in the last session, but CW Green went into the lead and there was not enough time for a result.

Still shocked at how I've reinvented myself after 10 pretty poor seasons into a genuine batsman.

Pleased that i finally made a few runs, though i really needed to push on with it and make a hundred in the first innings. The bowlers kept it nice and tight but didn't take the wickets regularly enough and the Colts got way too many runs. The batting was better in the 2nd innings but a draw was always going to be the result. Lets fire up guys and make sure we win the OD game.
