    Farewell - Retiring cricrate

Thanks again for the well wishes everyone - really appreciate it. No real monetary value in it - there was potential (say if I added fantasy leagues) or if I found a killer betting algorithm. As I recall Siddle was rated in the top 50 all-time.

    Farewell - Retiring cricrate

I'm happy to create a road map for the scripts if CW wants to take over. Right now it can be a bit confusing to navigate without knowing what each script does. Python seemed much easier to pick-up than C++ - maybe I just prefer scripting languages. Nope. I wouldn't let anyone influence me in...

    Farewell - Retiring cricrate

It's been a good 3+ years since I introduced cricrate and it has gone through a lot of iterations partly with suggestions from everyone here. I've done much more than I planned to do, and it has given me a lot of insight into the game, improved my statistical and coding skills and even inspired...

Ireland and Afghanistan awarded Test status by ICC

I expect SL to lose to both Ire and Afg within the next 5 years. Especially Afghanistan.

This is why you need quality-adjusted stats. I know some places where that's done well. 8-)

How Much Longer Do We Wait Before Declaring Starc As The ODI GOAT?

Comparing him to Brett Lee: cricrate | Mitchell Starc vs Brett Lee - ODI Bowling Starc has had a better start, but Lee hit his peak in match 110-120. I'd say Starc has to maintain his performance level for another 100 or so ODIs to be seriously considered in the ODI ATG conversations.

Sri Lanka cricket on the highway to self-destruction

The last Ban-SL series was an inflexion point. From now on, SL starts acting like Ban of the past and Ban starts acting like SL of the past. I'm a big fan of basketball these days... Until Cavs lose then I will have no more interest in sport.

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

You don't think playing 25% more matches with the same insane level of performance is a factor? I do.

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

To come back to the original question, the biggest point people bring up to show how dominant Viv was is how his 90 SR was out of the world during his time. This is true, but this ignores how AB's SR is also similarly outrageous in this era. To go into the nitty gritty: Viv played from...

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

AB >> Ponting and it's not even close. Bringing up WC wins is the worst argument.

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

No one is calling him GOAT. Just comparable to Ponting who is not in the GOAT discussion either.

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

I've been calling AB goat this whole thread.. why does it have to be assumed to be a nationality bias?

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

Amla, Kohli and AB all have a chance of being called GOAT so that argument that their records are inflated since they can't be considered GOAT material doesn't make sense. I already consider AB to be the GOAT, and the only reason Kohli and Amla are not in the same conversation is because they...

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

How is having an unconventional career where you constantly improve a black mark? If anything it's a positive since it shows that he could've played for even longer at a higher standard. People are way too married to the standard career trajectory. It's the overall numbers that matter assuming...

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

Only 2015 and 2016 are clearly above average. Sanga retired after 3 months into 2015. I agree that run-scoring has become easier since, but it wasn't clearly easier before. AB > rest imo, Amla and to a lesser extent Kohli just haven't played enough matches.

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

The mean ODI bowling average from 2000-2009 was 32.4 The mean ODI bowling average from 2010-2015 (when Sanga retired) was 32.6. Run-making didn't suddenly become easier.

What does AB De Villiers need achieve to surpass Viv Richards as the ODI's greatest

Sanga retired from ODIs aged 38. Ponting retired from ODIs aged 38. Sachin retired from ODIs aged 39. This argument is straight up invalid. Sanga was just plain better than them after 35. You can't just devalue his performances like that.
