*Official* New Zealand in Zimbabwe 2025 (Tests)

Absolutely elite world class bowler with the new ball. You could see it from his earliest domestic days, but unfortunately he was in the wake of Boult and Southee. His attitude around that time wasn't the best, either.

Yeah Fisher is one of those guys who will need to learn some more tools to be effective at Test level. The 145km get the wind up domestic batsmen won't work up higher. I can see him being effective on wickets with pace and carry, and grass cover, but completely ineffective bowling skiddy stuff...

I'll go 203, but that might be optimistic. Which is crazy, really. At his peak, arguable that he is in the top 5 of our most skillful/effective pace bowler in Test history. Sir 431 obviously the runaway winner, then maybe Bond, Boult, Henry? Only Sir Richard over 100 wickets has Henry on career...

Hmm, what I saw of him was fairly much what I expected. Shaped it initially, can bowl good balls with late movement, but also bowled a fair bit of floaty full stuff which was pretty easily handled. I don't see a Test bowler there and his batting isn't good enough for all-rounder status (yet)...

What's the affliction where you are allergic to triple figures? I feel like it should be called Dipakophobia for my own amusement

I bitch and moan as much as anyone about lack of quality warm-ups and how it used to be different, but not a Board in the world is going to schedule a warm up game in Zimbabwe. Even in places like NZ the touring team might play a two dayer then into it. It's just not feasible with the heavy calendar

I don't mind it, countries have to throw Zimbabwe a bone but it's too hard to open up a massive window to travel and prepare to play them. I think it's great we are there, playing them with a nigh-on full strength side or close enough to

Great insight, thanks Jake. Official word from the physios is they hope it's not serious, we're crossing fingers, and hopefully those two pieces of sports physiology will have him back on the park soon. NZC really does operate in a scrutiny-free zone, most of the time. I'm not suggesting this...

I think Duffy absolutely has the tools to be a good Test bowler. He's not been one because probably a) the worst era to be an NZ pace bowler behind the quality we've had (even Matt Henry couldn't get a go for a long time) and b) he had FC seasons where he averaged 23 then 43. I'm stoked he...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

I don't think Duckett particularly enjoyed it. Definitely deserved a send-off if he said the bowler wouldn't get him out, and also deserves one for reverse lapping into the cordon. But you don't touch a batsman. Nor I reckon do you justify giving him an elbow to the chops like Trescothick...

I'm just catching up with the highlights, I get that the ball was going through the surface a bit etc (although Young's dismissal looked soft as butter) but some of those shots. What the hell is Henry Nicholls doing, in a Test he should never be in, getting caught slashing to gully from a foot...

Probably shouldn't have touched him (in fact he shouldn't have) but definitely not worth outrage (not yours, clearly).

I get what you're saying but I have no regrets about circling this one on the calendar. Having won in India, we've now done all there is to achieve in Test cricket apart in the last decade apart from be competitive with Australia, anywhere. I don't even care if we don't win the series, respect...

Geezus. The nadir of the Stead era, really, was the Tim Southee farewell tour.

A chill just went down my spine... Howsie is right, though. Guys like Latham, Conway, Mitchell, Blundell, god forbid Bracewell (love him in limited overs but not Tests) and Nicholls will be trying to hold on for grim life to be there.

Are india most unluckiest team when it comes to winning toss?

If anything is going to get the toss laws changed, it's India being on the end of those sort of stats

England begging for a draw, Manchester, 27th July 2025

Thanks. I wanted to be in NRL heartland but alas. My two great skills in union were kicking and dropping the ball, and best I see it in this state, that makes you a marquee player
