    NZ domestic season 2023/24

I absolutely love Foulkes as a bowler. Bowls some absolutely filthy balls to get LHers out, think he got Solia earlier in the season with one similar. And doesn't carry on like a pork chop when he gets a wicket, just jogs down to shake hands like the good old days.

Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

Has anyone actually addressed Stefan's point which seems to be well made, that what is the difference between playing Afghanistan in a World Cup and playing a series against them which isn't in that country? Because if money and prestige of a World Cup is the answer, it's a feeble one

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

On Young, you'd have to presume his Test days are by and large done. Part of me wants to blame the establishment for completing ruining the guy, shoehorning him into opening and the fact 12 of his 16 Test innings' are as an opener. Conway was always the guy who should have done that job. But...

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

Holy hell, that is abysmal. I bet the victim was comforted by the fact that Scott had bounced back well. Off the park, apparently, I'm sure she'd agree. See, Stead being a gigantic muppet has brought all this stuff up again. I need to get a message to him. DO NOT PICK HIM AGAIN GARY, YOU...

Would he? He seemed to really battle with Haze's height and bounce

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

Yep,for sure. I felt at times he was too intense this series, although Flem assures me hes always like that. His match up with Haze just didn't work for him, really didn't like the lift off a length

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

I think we need to start picking players who have the mentality to play Australia. Players that will take them on head-first and play the sort of aggressive cricket that beats teams like that. We have guys like that in GP, Sears, Henry, and I feel like someone like Nathan Smith is similar...

New Zealand doom and gloom thread

I truly hope it is Stead, not Wells that steps away from that partnership. I believe Weenink will have strong thoughts on what an effective leader is, and know that Stead isn't it. Interesting, though, that quotes attributed to Wells were very strong on Nicholls literally as he was being...

New Zealand doom and gloom thread

Haha OK, well you've got corroboration there, so I offer my apologies. And now that I'm getting a better impression of who Stead is, this doesn't surprise me. Bloody hell, conservative doesn't quite accurately describe it, does it? Next he'll go all Mr Burns on it and ask O'Rourke to cut his...

NZ's road to their 4-Test Tour of Australia 2026-27

Couldn't agree more. The credibility is 100% on the line in this series. A really competitive series there has the ability to invigorate the game here - imagine the hype if you get a 4-match series where we take them on head-first and win? It would be mid-80s level of public investment in the game.

NZ's road to their 4-Test Tour of Australia 2026-27

Wait, this is a 4-match series? Holy ****. This thread is absolutely necessary, then. Every ounce of our focus should be on making sure we are competitive in this series. We have 2.5 years to give the right guys international red-ball exposure, because a 4-0 embarrassment would be near the end...

    Joel Wilson

Pretty sure back injuries, which is why he took to umpiring early. Wonderful bloke, Chris Brown. Great umpire, too.

If that's the sort of mentality the coach carries, where we expect 2-0 but maybe we'd get 1-1 with luck, then he should **** off and coach the U7 incredi-ball team. I'm not sure how you reconciled that we didn't perform way worse against Australia? We competed in 3 Tests v England over there in...

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

It's more bland that I'd expect. It's putrid. No mental block because apparently 4 years ago doesn't count and 1 win from 33 Tests is irrelevant, and basically the rest is saying we were close and could've won but didn't. That's sport. I cannot stand for my favourite team to have Gary Stead as...

In other news, I'm still to hear much from Gary Stead about all of this, and I read all parts of the media voraciously.

The Henry quotes are exactly how Daz should've worded it. Matt Henry is all class - it's almost hard to recall that he was a guy averaging 48 with the ball in Test cricket, and had a sub-par attitude to getting better. He's world class now.

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Aren't those memories just the best. I remember watching a 1990 Benson and Hedges game on a similar sized TV in a beach town I can't remember where, but I remember it fondly. As I said before, we're a dumb species - you look back at that, when crowds were huge, it was an incredible experience to...

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

That was the vibe I got. That's OK when you're England and you haven't lost a series in 2 years and almost won an Ashes series, but not when you almost lost to SA C, another pair of losses is rolled out v Australia amidst poor performances and selections, to add to woeful home Test losses...

I would like to join the crowd of people who think that it wasn't a horrible decision to make Southee captain, at all. Kane didn't want it (and wasn't Mike Brierley, let's be honest), Latham is ho-hum and I felt at the time giving it to Southee might make him more accountable. I think his...
