The only problem with Optus having the rights really is that it puts you in a ****** situation if Optus can't be your internet provider for whatever reason. But it does sound like a nice arrangement for the most part. I think NBN is coming to my area in the next few months so maybe I'll see if...

Australia were woeful in the first half. Incredibly lucky to be even really, just two excellent finishes keeping them in it. Better since half time though.

His overall record wasn't good, I think he batted well at times though - honestly overall his performance with the bat was kinda like Wade in this most recent tour of India. Record doesn't look great, actual performance was a little better than that, seemed to be a touch unlucky with not getting...

I honestly think what Nevill needs to do to get recalled is score quickly. They want aggressive lower-order batting from keepers, so they can counter-attack when the team is in trouble, since there was so much success with that from Gilchrist and Haddin. I think Nevill had too many innings where...

The biggest issue with India in Australia for me is just that their spinners wouldn't be that effective as wicket takers, which would mean some of Australia's batsmen other than Smith would likely have good series. The difference between the sides in India was the quality of Australia's overall...

Yeah, my objection is really to the "only" qualifier. Like... he couldn't just **** up? That's not a possibility? What's the explanation for when he gets out cheaply in the first innings? Low motivation from the last game? Such little respect for actual competition.

Needs Martyn for sure. Dominant in the only series Australia has won there in 50 years. Maybe too many one series wonders too, could make a case for someone like Clarke who had multiple good series in India. There's a lot of guys who did well there once but came back and didn't do it again.

Just to be clear, you are saying the only explanation for someone not making runs in the second innings after making runs in the first is lack of motivation? The only explanation? The... only one?

Sayers I could see getting a go in the next Ashes tour maybe, if he's still fit and bowling well in a couple of years. Or obviously if there's a bunch of injuries he could come in any time. A lot of Australia's express pace spearhead type bowlers have underperformed in English conditions...

Placing our bets on "Test Cricket's Young Fab Four"

Well, injuries etc can happen to anyone. Really just saying that players peak at different times for different reasons, even if 28-32 is the most common peak period, some players at basically done by their early 30s and others don't decline until much later.

Placing our bets on "Test Cricket's Young Fab Four"

That's true about ages but people do have different peaks. Viv Richards averaged 62 after his 44th test, when he had just turned 29, didn't play much for a year or two around then and his average declined every year after that, and he retired when he was 39. Michael Clarke's best period as a...

Because the question isn't about the strength of the individual bowlers. The question is about which attack is better: Haze/Starc/Cummins/Pattinson or Haze/Starc/Cummins/Lyon (or Pattinson in there for someone if you prefer). Maxwell is a handy bowler but he's no replacement for Lyon, and the...

Really don't see the sense in picking a team without a specialist spinner unless a) you don't have a decent spinning option, like occasionally happens with England or SA (or Australia between Warne and Lyon), or b) the pitch is just one you're totally sure won't take spin. Lyon has had a...

Very much doubt Starc (fitness permitting) is being dropped, nor do I think he should be. What's he done wrong exactly? Had a middling summer but wasn't terrible, some important, match-changing spells at different times, and his record over the last two years is almost identical to Hazlewood...

Blaming Wade is a bit unfair. Like yeah, taking the two was stupid, but he still did better than most, and he made runs in the first innings as well. Faced the most balls on this pitch of any player (though Pujara might catch him second dig) and scored the most runs other than Smith. I do think...

Can see a wicket falling right after drinks. These two have just seemed to settle in the last few overs with the ball getting older, but could easily lose concentration.
