    AFL Team 1997-Now: Midfielders

Went Buckley, Voss, Judd, Harvey, Hird, and Ablett. Ablett vs. Ricciuto or Cousins was the only tough choice at this stage, but given we'll likely have at least a couple more midfielders in the team, not too concerned at this point to be leaving out Roo, Cuz or Goodes.

    AFL Team - 1997-Present

Looks good, will probably use that for the next categories, but again, I can't see All-Australian details readily searchable by player.

    AFL Team - 1997-Present

the stats.rleague site is great for stats, but - and I may be not using it properly, I couldn't see All-Australian details on it.

    AFL Team 1997-Now: Midfielders

We are selecting 6 (SIX) midfielders only in this poll. Once we've filled other slots, we'll do a round of follow up polls to complete the remaining spots in the 22, and there will be a chance to add midfielders who miss out there. Player profiles below. Apologies for the patchy data on...

    AFL Team - 1997-Present

sheesh. pulling together the stats was hard work - nothing as definitive as Cricinfo for AFL. Posting the midfielders and key forwards battle now. Player profiles for the key forwards will have to wait til tomorrow. Dropped Leon Davis from the battle and added Simon Goodwin.

    A.F.L Thread

I've waxed overlong about Buckley in this thread before, but that picture encapsulates why I think he was the epitome of an AFL player, and why AFL players are amongst the most awesome atheletes around. Not only does Buckley appear to have been exposed to mutagen in that photo (expect him to...

    A.F.L Thread

Would be hugely ironic if he ended up at North after the shennigens at the beginning of his career. btw he was never a Kangaroo - he signed an illegal deal as a naive 17 year old because North - to their credit - identified him first and offered what seemed to a kid from Darwin playing...

    AFL Team - 1997-Present

Didn't click it itbt. Nearly bit anyway, but my medication is working well at the moment. Will add Brett Burton in as a non-key forward - surprised there haven't been mobs out with pitchforks and torches for his omission. Will post the first couple of polls now - I think a poll to select 6...

The stats do not do him justice!

Uppercut explains my point in this thread, using one third of the words, for thrice the effect. WAG.

Group E - England, India, South Africa, West Indies

    Bit late, but lol India.

    A.F.L Thread

Bit harsh on Gilham. He's no champion, but he's alright and was one of the lesser lights who lifted to help Hawthorn improve last year. By himself, it's not a huge loss, but on top of Croad, and obv. Hodge it's definitely hurt them.

    A.F.L Thread

Think rucks often appear ineffectual but it becomes very noticeable if one side has a really good ruck division and the other is poor. Collingwood's lose to Geelong in the 07 Prelim is probably a classic illustration. It was described later on as being similar to fighting a war with air...

Done. Also addin in Brett Ratten and Scott Camporale.

    Worst ever commentary moment?

Yeah, was thinking of that. Re CDMs original post, maybe the commentator meant Warne was really pushing it through, ie getting up into the 90kph range?
  15. Matt79

The stats do not do him justice!

Tbf, I hardly called his relative lack of play against Aus and Pak a blot on his record or suggested it downgraded his record. I simply said that in this case, as in all similar ones, for almost every argument as to why a player has been unlucky there will be an argument as to why that's not the...

Should Brett Lee be selected for the Ashes?

No real reason for Lawson not to be objective re Bollinger vs Lee - they're both NSW quicks. With Clark, there's the extra layer that his style looks perfect for England, whereas Lee has been average there.

    AFL Team - 1997-Present

Adding in Luke Hodge as a non-key back.
  18. Matt79

    A.F.L Thread

Hodge is such a massive out for them - its become a media cliche, but he really is their general down back. And then add in Croad and Gillam out on top of that.

    AFL Team - 1997-Present

I've put him in - during the polls, I think people should certainly argue their cases. This is going to be a bastard - just tried to select a team based on my own views out of the nominees, deciding who you leave out is the hard bit.

    AFL Team - 1997-Present

Ah, thought of Nathan Brown before, and then forgot him again. Archer should obviously be nominated, yes.
