    The fallout

Despite the result itself, I don't honk this series has been as disasterous as is being painted by some. There were some poor selection/team management decisions and heads so roll over those, but there were nearly as many positives as negatives coming out of this. What went wrong Johnson was...

*Official* Fifth Test at The Oval

Well played England. Was the better team in more of the important periods in this match. Anderson and Paneser deserve medals for holding out for a drawer at Cardiff - it's won you the Ashes in the end.

btw, I know its an oft-repeated complaint, but channel 7 can go get ****ed with their Sunday football coverage. Not live, multiple ads everytime a goal is scored, and at the end of the match, no interviews, let alone sticking around to hear the winners sing the song. ****s.

They are tbh, we're still the best part of 400 in arrears on a pitch where, once a wicket falls, there will probably be a succession. If we're to have any chance of batting long enough - the runs will have come of their own accord - but it will need this pair to survive til tea at least...

Port Adelaide, can I introduce you to Character - I don't believe you two have met. Have to say, since Voss has taken over as coach of Brisbane, I'm finding it hard to hate them the way I have for most of the past decade. They're a likeable young team these days.

You guys have been surprisingly restrained actually. I'd have been gloating more, I admit. Maybe painful experience has taught you caution/pessimism.

Tipped the Tiges at work tbh.

Michael Hussey – Is his time up?

Even by your standards Precam, there's a lot of silliness in this. You agree that a captain is to a degree hostage of the performance of the other ten players, but you can't justify his captaincy because he's lost a couple of series. Averaging 40 with the bat in test cricket is "bad". He's got...

Taylor would be great as a selector IMO. Would love Warne to take it on, but he's obviously got too many other things to do.

Michael Hussey – Is his time up?

So really your gripe is not that selectors aren't prepared to select people out of position, but that they've selected Watson. You should just say so.

Merv rarely does himself any favours when talking in the media - Symonds was selected as a batsman not an allrounder, etc etc

Cricket Web's Review of Ashes Cricket 2009

Was actually going to ask this - is the new game actually better than 05 in peoples opinions? I'm quite happy playing 05, but it's certainly not without it's faults in terms of AI, shots not making sense all the time, etc.

Michael Hussey – Is his time up?

Athers, you're confusing me. Inbox said the selectors refuse to select batsmen out of position. I was pointing out that 2 out of the last three additions to the current top six in Katich and Watson were selected out of their accustomed position. Are you telling me that's wrong?

Michael Hussey – Is his time up?

Not when he was selected as an opener he wasn't...

Michael Hussey – Is his time up?

Simon Katich and Shane Watson say hi. Do agree however that ATM we have more openers than we need so perhaps one of Katich or Watson to 4 and one of Hughes or Jaques in to open would be the go.

Your guys understand that there's no priority pick in it for them this time if they throw the match, right?

Nup - 200 will be the most try can realistically chase. This pitch is going to get worse and worse as the match goes on.
