    Appreciating good techniques

Footwork becomes more important? To put yourself in a position where you can adjust to cover late movement without becoming unbalanced or leaving a gap between bat and pad?

Pfft, he talked. It was left to others to "do". :p

    Appreciating good techniques

An idea I was tossig around. Cricket conversation in general, and certainly on here, makes regular reference to the strength or weakness of a player's techniques. I suspect I can't be the only one here with a less than encyclopedic knowledge of what exactly, in technical detail, constitutes a...

Hi newcomers to the site, and welcome to the best forum for the discussion of cricket on the web. We hope you have a look around and find that you enjoy the forum here as much as we all do. James has a 'read me first' on the main index page that is well worth a quick look. Beyond that...

    Tests: Chappell vs. Ponting

Record outside of Aus and UK = 17 matches, 27 innings, 1575 runs @ 65.62, including 5 centuries and 6 fifties - including averaging 70+ in Pakistan and NZ (during the time of Hadlee), and 48 in the West Indies. Not really shabby. And should point out that 17 matches is around a fifth of his...

Which was the more painful defeat for Australia?

The 05 loss hurt more. The 01 loss did hurt, but it was in the context of Australia not having won a series in India before that in nearly 30 years - it was the final frontier, and while we probably expected to win (especially after the first test!), we didn't expect it to be easy or a sure...

The atmosphere in Cricket Chat - Suggestions & Discussion

I've been posting a lot less recently. Partly because I've been busy, partly because the quality of the discussion here has been worse, and partly because I've found myself too often joining in the bad behaviour when someone's irritated me. I think it was Joe recently who told me that the...

    Tests: Chappell vs. Ponting

Chappell for me. Best Australian batsman ever, bar Bradman. What he did against some of the best bowling attacks ever was remarkable, and his test record leaves out some of his most productive years, when he played WSC. Not really much of a knock on Ponting though..

    Sachin Tendulkar and Jack Hobbs

did the same with my family. And poured scorn that he suggested Ponting....

    Sachin Tendulkar and Jack Hobbs

Yeah, nice comparison. Reminds me of the cricket question in Slumdog Millionaire.

So is India safe to tour or is it just a media beat-up?

Might have helped the Sri Lankan team if they had guys who were willing to stand there and shoot back rather than run for the hills....

    Switch hitting

That tactic might not work so well for your average off-spinner! I can't see the problem. Surely batsmen are allowed to improvise whatever technique they care to try to play a shot. Like the reverse sweep, it will probably **** up and get them out as often as it gets them a couple of cheap...

So is India safe to tour or is it just a media beat-up?

I must have missed where and when this occurred? Is there actually any basis for the claims that Ponting is agitating against the IPL, besides Modi's unprofessional tweet? EDIT: Genuine question btw

    Tendulkar becomes ODI top scorer!!!

Crap, looks like the discussion has already derailed, but coming to the news of Sachin's innings a bit late, just wanted to post to say WAG. Another amazing accomplishment to add to his already incredulously impressive record. Funny, but when people have asked who would do the 200 first, and...

So is India safe to tour or is it just a media beat-up?

Bomb in Pune wouldn't have helped. RSA simply aren't a target in the way UK and Aus are.

So is India safe to tour or is it just a media beat-up?

Don't trust sports administrators in any sport or country to have the fortitude to withstand a genuine media **** storm without resorting to precipitate overreaction.
