Hiss and a roar then fizzle out XI

Mark Greatbatch, along with Matt Sinclair for NZ. Matt Horne too although his early achievements were just a modest "almost 40 average" which counts as a huge success for an NZ opener. Jimmy Adams averaged 84 after 15 tests, and 61 at the halfway point (27 tests) of his career. He averaged...

    Your World XI of 2013

Warner Smith Pujara Taylor Amla de Villiers * Broad Philander Harris Sten Ajmal No allrounders to pick from so I'll go with a batsman keeper and five bowlers, some of whom can bat pretty well. Albeit not well enough to be trusted to try and score 16 off 3 overs with 3 wickets left.....

Will Chanderapul be considered an all time great?

I'd love to know how long Shiv plans to keep playing - it can't be much fun getting beaten so often. Would be amazing to see someone in their 40's scoring test tons. Definitely an ATG for me, with the small asterix that he really should have moved up to bat at 3 when Lara quit. His technique...

    Test NZ XI vs India

Are there really no Nelson-based players in the CD side? Time was over half of the 11 would come from the perennial Hawke Cup holders (with Taranaki or Manawatu to supply a couple of quick bowlers...) I may be showing my age a bit here.... {television screen goes all wavy at the edges, and I'm...

When will Philander average > 20?

Will be interesting to see how long his career lasts. He gets just enough zip to make his method work, so I imagine if he lost a yard of pace he'd get absolutely collared. Similar to Ryan Harris in that regard. FWIW I hope he does end up averaging in the 18's - would be great to watch a...

    Test NZ XI vs India

NZ is in the nice position of actually having some options in key positions rather than casting around for anyone to fill a problem gap.... McCullum Rutherford - but if any of Fulton, Guptill, Latham, Papps, Redmond or Flynn are scoring big runs, I'd take them. Williamson Taylor Ryder...

Looked a very tired over from Sharma that one. Think Shami is the only bowler who might win this for India, much less stop South Africa getting there

But no West Indian poster on here wants him in the side either!!

Rutherford is averaging about 24 since his debut innings over 10 tests ago. That's a pretty decent run - if someone else starts scoring big runs in first class cricket I don't think anyone could complain if Rutherford was replaced.

Serious question - who else could captain this side? It feels like only Chanderpaul, Bravo and Roach are guaranteed a place in the side and none of them strike me as captaincy material.

Maybe they're just not good enough, but the likes of Brathwaite and Powell need to sit down and watch how Vijay batted last night against Steyn, Philander and Kallis. Sure he got out a bit unluckily when he should have been pushing on to a big score, but he left everything he had to and picked...

I support NZ and all... but I really wish the Windies had put up more of a fight. Was shaping up to be a classic if they could have set us 250. Of course, we did lose four quick wickets to Shillingford in Dunedin chasing a similar total, but I think we'll knock these off very easily. Won't...

Apologies to WW et al, but I like Sammy. Beaten by a cracker that threatened to take his nose off and the bowler comes down aggressively... and he just smiles and laughs. Could almost hear him say "too good". And then hits the next three balls for four...

Always a bit sad to see a test career end... surely that's Deonarine's last innings?
