He's bowled exactly 12 FC overs this season. Which is fair enough for the part-timer he obviously is (29 FC wickets ever), but for a first choice spinner in a first Ashes test? I actually think his bowling is a (slight) upgrade on Root's for all that though, but not enough to omit (say)...

Jack Leach out of the Ashes

Dawson probably the most feasible option (if McCullum and Stokes don't wanna bend the knee to Mo or Rashid) which is pretty depressing. Imagine we'll call up a twirler to the squad and then go with four seamers anyway.

I just think of it as a synonym for "not worth the money" or "far shitter than anticipated". Don't think anyone could claim Sancho has looked like an £80m player in his OT spell. Especially given Haarland was about £30m cheaper.

Your second sentence works without "there" too. Used to be a fan, but he's just dropped off a cliff, form wise. Probably shouldn't even call it "form" because the southward trajectory of his performance has been going on way too long now just to be the vicissitudes of form.

BFS leaves the dirties after 4 games and 30 days in charge. A shorter reign than even Cloughie managed at Elland Road. Probably the only aspect of Allardyce's managerial career that stands comparison to the great man, tbf.

Subba Row must be pretty close to England's oldest living test cricketer; cricinfo says he's 91.

Is his first name pronounced "fin" or "fee-on"? My cousin has a daughter called Ffion. Just sayin'...

Definitely has the look of a bloke who does his own plumbing, but doesn't seem to have quite as affectionate a relationship with the pies as his old man though.

Can't see Wood in the XI; he's carry a knock (as per) and his other half is due anytime.

Pothas to disagree. IIRC that's the double over Citeh for the Bees.

Ugh. No real strong feelings either way about Cov (the footy team, I mean; the actual city is a concrete cesspit) but Luton Down are genuinely awful. Plastic pitch, racist tory MP ex-chairman, ban on away fans, their (still extant) comically outdated ground that one used to literally have to...

He was a bit good, wasn't he? I'm glad the majority of the great man's career is recorded for posterity because, looking at his good but not earth shattering stats, I can see future footballing iconoclasts trying to claim he wasn't that special. Luckily we can point to clips like the 98 QF &...

I'm sure most of us have seen this with the Dutch commentary, but the Argentinian one doesn't sound grudging. But I no speako Spaniardo, so the comm could be wishing his children cancer for all I know:

I heard the press have been pushing his cart pretty hard because his name is such an absolute gift to headline writers: Tongue licks the Micks Tongue has taste for Aussie blood Aussies get Tongue lashing

Ditto, except the one I missed was Man Utd's 96/97 skipper. :shy: Completely blanked on him ever having been captain.

Yer Dirties got to the 75 final too. And, true to form, got themselves banned from Europe for two years for taking the defeat with typical Yorkshire grace.

Ha, yep. Ironically, given how many entrants the larger nations now get for the CL, Wafer's rationale for not allowing our runner-up (Villa, IIRC) into the European Cup was that it was reserved for champions. Pretty sure ManUre won the CWC in England's first season back post-Heysel. Before...

Didn't your chaps come back from 3-0 against the Saints in one of your League Cup runs? Think either Hoddle or his moustachioued little mate were in charge, so it was post 98 at least.
