Nobody has more Ashes victories than Ian Ronald Bell. And he is younger than Chris Rogers was, when he made his debut. The one Test vs India doesn't count, because I say so. And Ian Ronald Bell is just the type that only gets better with age. Also because I say so. Ian Bell, my Lord, Ian Bell

    Reading the scoring summary

Well, this is quite an interesting topic, me thinks. One doesn't need to be a biomechanics expert to see that both (top level) fast bowling and pitching are prone to bring injuries. Hence, careers need to be manged carefully from a medical point of view. A rather famous example is Glenn McGrath...

I seriously think that is more likely than most probably think it is. Not saying it is quite likely, but I can see how, after these two batting on for a while, the English middle and lower order smash them to a sizeable lead. The Compton dismissal has lured us to think the pitch is wildly...

Though I generally agree with this principle, I can see why selecting players for team developing reasons is not a bad thing per se.

We don't count tour matches, do we?

Cook's looking good. That was really coming. And Root is Root. I can see the Saffers not breaking this partnership for a while.

Indeed. The big difference between Roland Garros & Wimbledon. French camera men zooming in at the hotties, English camera men zooming at old ladies eating strawberries.

That's why I think it's wrong to dump a batsman after just the 4 Tests. Cook has indeed been tripe with the bat this series. But he can have a whole summer and winter to come of rotten bat handling, before anyone should doubt his place. A luxuary that Hales simply has not.

And if we do so, do we conclude that Jos is better than Jonny? Based on what I have seen in Testst so far, I would pick Jonny.

Probably better indeed. Is there any chance England selectors will even think of Ian Bell returning?

Though I do not disagree, I find it hard to say what is a good indicator.

Compton, Compton. And then Ballance @3, I guess.

Part of me thinks it's simply wrong to give any new batsman just the 4 tests and dump him, no matter how dire. But Hales is indeed showing he does have what it takes a Test opener: -A waft ourtside off. Bad! -Caught at long on. Bad! -A snick to slip. I guess not the worst way to get out...

I checked English FC stats, earlier this series, and there is no keeper who has taken more catches/stumpings per innings than JMB. I guess he simply is the best keeper England have right now. That is, until Harvey Hosein is ready :) .

Netherlands , or rather South Africa B, are easing towards a win over UAE. I guess not too many people care a damn bit, right?

I've hardly watched a bit of this test, so I'm curious: Did Jonny mess things up behind the sticks? Things like that are usually easily said. How many did he drop and were those chances tough or not?

I know. For once, I was actually backing 91Jmay's opinion.
