    Pre-War Cricket Draft

    Team shaping up very nicely.

    Is Laxman a great batsman?

I think the fact that both SA and Australia have found that Laxman in particular gas regularly stood up in matches against them should add to his case for greatness. For much of his career, they've been the best bowling teams.

    Is Laxman a great batsman?

    Can't agree with that.

*Official* New Zealand in Bangladesh 2010

Didn't realize Greatbatch was NZ's coach atm. Well done Bangers - Shakib and Siddons seem to be producing some more regular success. Will be interesting to see how they go at the WC.

Yeah, got interrupted typing that and didn't refresh - hence the disconnect.

Flem - really, what you're doing in the past page is baiting, stop it. Someone else 'inevitably' doing something hypothetical in the future doesn't justify trying to bait them into it now. Edit: couple of posts since I started that response more sensible - thanks.

Z dragging this out to the hour one fancies :p

    ESPNcricinfo World XI

Nah, not criticizing you, just discussing it ;). It does smack of a bias towards modernity but lots of people are uncomfortable picking players they didn't see. Not correct, but understandable.

    ESPNcricinfo World XI

    ESPNcricinfo World XI

Ah, is that the case? I can't see any grounds for knocking Bogle for not including Imran and Hadlee then.

    ESPNcricinfo World XI

It's always easier to name the couple of people who "should" be in than it is to name which couple of people who are in "should" come out though. If he'd put in Imran and Hadlee in place of Wasim and Lillee, he'd have a near equal amount of people bagging him for that. Without derailing this...

    ESPNcricinfo World XI

There is more chance of John Howard beating out Warne and Murali for the spinners slot than there is of Tendulkar missing out.

    ESPNcricinfo World XI

That's a pretty damned good XI - Imran for Lillee is really the only definite improvement I'd make. It would be a toss up as to whether one of Wasim or Warne made way for Murali. Don't understand the criticism tbh - other than leaving out Imran which I'm sure he said was due to team balance (ie...

    *Official* Australia in India 2010

I missed this the first time, until Brumby quoted it. Epicly correct post.

*Official* Road to the 2010/11 Ashes

Plus he played all of one full FC season before debuting, so there hadn't been a whole lot of time for opponents to work that out - especially as ill directed short balls got belted.

Greatest All-rounder if captaincy were to be included

I think the theory is that only if they would be selected purely as a batsman BUT THEN they also keep wickets, a la Gilly, Flower and Sanga that you would call them an allrounder. That's different from someone who bats at a Brad Haddin/Matt Prior standard, who is more the keeper who is also a...

    *Official* Australia in India 2010

Wonder whether Hussey being still pretty good and a fixture in our XI in ODIs is complicating things from the selectors point of view? Poor selecting from them if that's the case, but perhaps a desire to have him at the 2011 WC is, even mostly unconsciously, shading their assessment. With a...
