    Best and worse of 2006?

Best: Bangladesh being competitive in the 1st Test against Australia; Monty Panesar South Africa v Australia 5th ODI Warne getting 700 - it had it to happen Ruined: England not being competitive enough against Australia in the Ashes Wasim Raja Sir Clive Walcott The PCB handling over the drug...

So who will be number 400 for Australia?

Well Australia is on 398 Test caps (while England can't be too far away from 650, and how many random selections were in those selections?) and with Langer, Warne and McGrath now retiring, and Jaques and MacGill are two replacements who will come in (well more then likely) and Johnson to replace...

Why do cricketers have rubbish nicknames?

Well they are. "Warney", Pidge", Simmo", "Haydos", "Colly", "Flem", "Nath", "Punter", "JL", "Kat" etc. are all rubbish nicknames. Why can't be people actually come up with something better, like Mark Waugh's nickname - Afgan, as in Afganistan, the forgotten Waugh (War).

So did England really had a chance anyway?

After being thumped thus far and all the talk of Ashley Giles, Geriant Jones, Monty Panesar, Chris Read, Steve Harmison and James Anderson, Flintoff's captaincy, Adelaide, and the lack of a proper preparation, really in hindsight even if they got it right do you think they would still have been...

If you could bring in one thing and one thing only?

For me without doubt is uncovered wickets. It will show you how good the likes of Ponting, Hussey, Lara etc. really are.

    WANTED: One English wicket-keeper

WANTED: One English wicket keeper, who can hold a cricket bat and knock out some runs to help out Kevin Pietersen for when the middle order goes AWOL. Ability to keep wickets well is also a strong must and so is the ability to play spin. Applicants are welcome to apply whether they are from...

Unfilled: Lara's not ready to quit

Link What about this for a middle order then if that happened? Ponting Lara Hussey Clarke And no need for Symonds :boxed:

    Andrew Flintoff - post Ashes

Sorry if it is in the wrong forum, if it is feel free to move to move it to the Ashes one :) Well if he doesn't give up the captaincy now after Perth then he will surely do it after Sydney and it is clearly a mistake to give him the captaincy, he is simply not cut out for the job. In that I...

    Jacques Kallis v Rahul Dravid

Well who do you rate as better? I would tend to go for Dravid in that he seems to be bat more for the team then Kallis who seems to take his own time when batting and doesn't look to really dominate or go after a bowling attack (I suppose how Ponting would) and surprisingly doesn't have a Test...

What makes Stuart Clark so good ATM?

What is that that he is having so much success currently? Is it his line and length and ability to get some movement or the batsmen not being attacking enough against him. I mean in that when batsmen start to look to score off him they do have a lot of success against him (ie get quite a few...

If Symonds had chosen England instead

There is probably an alternative universe where he did choose England instread of Australia and I'm probably in danger of being shoot/hanged/burnt at the stage again, however I will post away anyway. My question is had he opted to play for England and showing up his shortcomings thus far (if he...

5 matches for stepping on an opponents ankle

Well the big story in Italian football is Czech star Juve's Pavel Neved got sent off on the weekend for 'voluntarily trod on his opponent’s ankle' 'And after being consequently sent off by the referee, offended him and stamped on his foot, with no damaging consequences'. Given that now Nedved...

    This could sound controversial but...

With Australia's team getting older, and whilst they are performing admiraly and nor could you fault them for it, after the Ashes and there isn't a few retirements (at this stage it is buckley's and none), do you think that the Australian selectors might to have make a tough call and face load...

    2006-07 ICC Tri-Series

Let's end this - will Vaughan play or not?

Ok let's see if Michael Vaughan will play any part in the Ashes, doespite what the theories go.

    What was he thinking?

For all those moments on and off the field, from selections to non selections, to commentating calls, or statements in the media before a series that left you wondering 'What was he thinking?' For me: Sultan Zarawini facing up to Allan Donald at his fastest without a helmet. Yep bright choice...

    2006/07 Cricket Idol

No they won't sing thankfully or this is an elimation type game but I'm going to ask people to put and down and who do they think will be cricket's rising stars into full blown stars of the international game. We will try and and keep their age from 26 and under and have played international...

Boycott calls for Fletcher to go

Full story I suppose it could be moved if it is in the wrong forum. I have to agree with Boycott on most, but you can't sack your coach less then a month out from the Ashes begins, it would be too disruptive for one and another it would take away any hope England had. IMO I think he wil lleave...

    Things we won't see again

What things that used to be seen in international cricket (or FC) in the last several decades. For me it is: - 1000 runs before the end of May in England or June, that sort of form would probably lead to a call-up if a spot suddenly came up; - The long tours, New Zealand toured England in 1978...
