ODI All Rounder Poll - Discussions

The previous round saw Gayle (0.55) and Tendulkar (0.33) getting votes as well as Cronje getting in with 0.60. That's what I was looking at.

I wasn't referring to Viv. I was looking at Cronje. Others with similar wpm figures also get votes ahead of him.

"Taking a closer look Collingwood bowled in most games except for a weird 18 months between Jan 2003 and July 2004. He played 20 games and only bowled in 2 of those games (5 overs total). Wondering if he was injured?" He was. He dislocated his right shoulder while fielding in a pre–season...

Debunking a myth – Len Hutton's batting style

Using posed photos of cricket shots, as above, is flawed if used to analyse early players' techniques.. Photography wasn't where it is now, and subjects were required to remain still for their shots.

    ODI All Rounder Poll

14 voters and a dozen nominations. There were, once again, 3 clear 'winners' this round - all with a solid history of all round performances. There are still players worthy of inclusion and the continued good number of voters indicate an interest in continuing our poll to 30 and possibly...

No doubting his longevity. His early batting was ordinary and, after he earned his spot as a batsman his bowling fell away. Was never a great all rounder at the one time.

Is he that far off Jayasuriya (0.72wpm; ave 36.75) and Viv (0.63wpm; ave 35.79)? That pair made our Top 10 while Collingwood looks unlikely to figure in the Top 20 on current voting.

So we are rating a player with only 48 games and 35 wickets ahead of players with 150+ games (including one of only two who have ever scored a ton and taken a 5fer in one game)? What's going on?

It looks as though longevity is a factor when voting. Both Jayasuriya (445 games) and Afridi (398) have flaws in their statistical resumes but, at their best, probably deserve inclusion. At the other end of the scale we have players with fewer than 100 games (48 in the case of one player)...

    ODI All Rounder Poll

14 Voters and 15 nominations. The latter figure was boosted by two voters who, between them, put forward 6 names that nobody else mentioned. This isn't intended as a criticism - it simply illustrates the diversity of options and opinions. As it stands, there were 3 obvious new additions...

Surprised to see Afridi getting so many votes. His batting average (23.58) is nothing special while his bowling stat (34.51) is equally as unimpressive. His batting/bowling differential (-10.93) is unacceptable imo. Others have far better qualifications.

    12 voters and, for the third round in a row, just 8 nominations. All 3 'inductees' were clear cut and the tied pair couldn't be separated by the 'number of votes' method. Both received 7 mentions. J.Kallis 20 G.Chappell 15 A.Symonds 15 C.Cairns 8 R.Hadlee 6 S.Afridi 5 H.Cronje 2 C.Harris 1...
