    Australian Domestic Offseason 2011

When I was a kid, players like Barry Richards used to play in the Aussie state comp and some of the great West Indies players did too. I don't think it did our bowlers any harm to bowl at superstars at home. Michael Holding played in Tasmania if I remember rightly. You might get a few more...

Yes, there is all that, but of course the big question is... how will the headcase bowl? If he has a good match or even just a decent match first up, it makes life SOOOO much easier for everyone including the spin bowlers.

Monty Panesar really loves the game, I reckon he'd play fourths if he couldn't play anywhere else. It's such a shame he can't get a state contract. I do rate him. He's got the ability to take large swags of wickets at once.

Just watch the ball... Bloody hell, I hope Arthur stays with the Warriors.

If it does stuff them up, it just means they probably weren't tough enough for international cricket anyway. I find it really weird that people seem to think a youngster being dropped will somehow lose all will to be good. If they love the sport and love competing, it should spur them on...

It's already keeping wicket and trying to slog every ball it faces over the offside field.. That rod can't do everything.

Yeah, he's got the lot. Shame he can't keep wickets to himself that way we could get rid of the brainless backstop.

Agree with Clarke that a lot depends on the pitch. Clarke shells 'em at slip a lot, doesn't he? He should know that he's not a reliable slipsman by now. I suppose he's getting to play out his fantasies of what he thinks the Aussie skipper 'ought' to do. Bat further up the order and sit in slip.

talented players who didn't deliver as much as they could

Asif does deliver when he gets to play. I can't bear that he may never play international cricket again as the flexible wrist and ability to get the ball moving off the pitch is dreamy to watch. He's my favourite bowler, but he's such a monumental ****wit.

I'm hoping Clarke said that as a 'throwaway' comment, kind of joking. If not, it's bull****. You can't be the skipper of Australia and openly say that you are glad you aren't playing the best players of the opposition. Sounds like he still hasn't decided between Marsh and Khawaja.

What is a crisis situation in Test cricket?

For a fair while, Gilchrist was like that. He could come out with 5 down for bugger all and then you'd forget there had been a collapse.

I love watching Shaun Marsh bat, but he's purely a short-term measure. I just can't see him having the temperament for a proper test career. I don't think he's confident enough and he has concentration issues. Makes the game look so easy at times though.

Very compact, isn't he? Not much back lift. That seems to have gone out of fashion.

Please explain how Sids, Smith, Harris, etc, got in by being pretty? Johnson is about the only one they can choose on the potential of modelling contracts, surely? I know Clarke gets money to run around in his jocks but that is still a mystery to me, why anyone would pay him.

Sounds like Sids is trying too hard and getting some tap in the process. Memo to Clarke: Cannot have him and Johnson in the same line-up.

Youngsters being dropped isn't the end of the world. If they are good enough, they'll get back in the team. Most players get dropped at some point in their career. It doesn't automatically follow that it ****s them up. If it did, none of them would ever be seen again.

Same ol'. I'd like Copeland picked just for the reason that he isn't Siddle. And I like the idea of him at first slip.

I don't agree. Mitch sometimes bowls really well after a rest then at other times he'll bowl poorly after a rest. Same with him if he's played a lot. I don't think you'll find a pattern for him bowling like a drain. He's not dependent upon anything other than what goes on in that head of his.
