Meanwhile, Bairstow knocking it around at c4 an over, batting beautifully, and nobody is saying a word. Two options for England: Just bat the whole innings out - get all your runs in the first knock. Hammer down and look to declare, or be dismissed, about 40-50 minutes before tea. Give a...

This is bloody enjoyable  I wonder if the 2nd day of a Test has ever started at such a high scoring rate. I doubt it. And that was an amazing shot :surprise:

Yasir Shah tests positive for banned substance

A lot of treatments have steoids but a top sportsman, and their backroom staff, will know this as it has implications. The sportsman would know to ask a doctor as well.

Why do they keep talking about declarations? England needn't think about that until mid afternoon tomorrow, if it becomes and issue. And if Steyn has done a rotator cuff he might be out a while if baseball pitchers are anything to go by. Normally season ending for them, even if done in spring...

Yasir Shah tests positive for banned substance

I think for a steroid or similar PED the penalty is 4 years but may come down if there are extenuating circumstances. These would normally involve contamination by a third party outside the knowledge of the athlete (being given medication by a coach or doctor would not be covered by this)...

Yasir Shah tests positive for banned substance

I suspect the ICC weren't signed up to WADA at the time. Warne got away from that VERY lightly though - the Australian authorities ducked out.

Yasir Shah tests positive for banned substance

If the ICC follow the guidelines of WADA (which, I think, pretty well every sport does now) it would be a 4 year ban. Mitigating circumstances might (but only might) reduce that but ignorance from a player (or even a Doctor who gave him the item) would not count amongst these.

Wilfred Rhodes - A Good Utility Player

I would imagine of you were picking an all time England XI Rhodes would go in as the first choice left arm spinner. Verity, Blythe Peel and Briggs would be considered but, over all, Rhodes would win the spot. People in the game who saw them put Rhodes at the top of the tree as a bowler, some...

What makes a good test pitch?

English groundsmen do not prepare the pitches to order from the England team or management. They want a match that will last well into the 5th day and are very nervous if too many wickets fall too early as their employers (the County) will not be pleased. And to describe the Trent Bridge pitch...

    KP: Loudmouth or misunderstood

KP was too big a pillock for too long - there comes a time when that can't be managed. And note how, according to him, he's never at fault.

**Official** Pakistan and England in the UAE 2015/16

The closest I've ever come to taking the players off for bad light happened when players on the boundary had, for a while found difficulty in picking up the ball. It got to a point where fielders on the single, and the umpire at the striker's end were struggling on some deliveries (the batsmen...

**Official** Pakistan and England in the UAE 2015/16

So how could the rule be changed to have allowed more play? The ONLY way would have been with floodlights (if available and good enough) and changing to a pink/ornage ball during the innings - which IMO would constitute too big a change in playing conditions. And plenty of perfect hindsight...

When the foot landed was any part (raised or lowered) behind the popping crease (which is the back edge of the line FYI). I'd say not.

**Official** Pakistan and England in the UAE 2015/16

And it's the TV people who shout the loudest for these things as it 'improves their coverage'. Just watching The Verdict from yesterday and saw two respected former Test players talking utter garbage suggesting changing the no ball Law to the foot at the point of delivery rather than where it...
