    England 17-man squad

We can only hope for big collapses in the Ashes. Clarke and Katich will be better this time round than in 2005. Clarke is twice the batsman he was then and Katich has fitted into the moderately scoring opening role very well. They aren't cheap wickets. Hughes will face the biggest test...

    England 17-man squad

Swann gives it a rip, and the good thing about a slow wicket is that you can bowl it faster out of the hand and (theoretically) the ball should still react to the revolutions and turn once it hits the wicket. Rashid isn't a conventional leggie, he uses a scrambled seam and I honestly don't know...

How Many Centuries Will Phil Hughes Score?

Ha ha, speak for yourself. 3 centuries in 10 innings is within possibility given his experience of Lord's plus The Oval being a batting wicket. Edgbaston, if he gets in is a possibility. I think 2 cents, maybe 1 a biggie or double is more realistic facing our attack in conditions...

Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina - test class ?

Rohit is more likely to be test class than Raina imo. I think Subramaniam Badrinath should be in the India test team instead of Yuvraj for the immediate future but Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma are the long-term replacements for Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman IMO. I don't...

    Which team was the greatest

Na, I think you overlook the fact that quality seamers have always got the better of Hayden, unless it's just English seamers..... Aussie wickets are generally much easier to bat on than English. What?! Lol. He didn't play in an era of uncovered wickets, the covers go on within 1 minute of...

How Many Centuries Will Phil Hughes Score?

    None of that will happen.

    Swalec Stadium

Pace and bounce moreso for conventional leggies (Warne liked Brisbane for that reason). I'm sure Swann would like lack of pace and bounce as long as there is turn. He bowled better than his figures show in India (against batsmen used to spin- offies in particular) and Australia struggled against...

    England 17-man squad

We have a number of bowlers who would be largely nullified outside of England, but luckily the Ashes series is IN England so that doesn't matter for the immediate future. I agree that fitness will be the main problem (when he's fit, he can continue to bowl in the mid 80's since he maxes 90mph+...

    Which team was the greatest

Well whether you like it or not, both Hayden and Ponting have scored the majority of their runs on flat wickets- that's pretty much fact. I don't discredit them for cashing-in, but Tendulkar and Lara have done it in bowler friendly conditions as well as in batsmen friendly, so you can't hold the...

    Which team was the greatest

It's no coincedence Hayden's career only took off in the 00's where batting wickets were intentionally prepared across the world. While I don't think he ONLY scored runs on flat tracks, the majority of his runs have come on very batting friendly tracks. While Slats' averages aren't anywhere...

    Which team was the greatest

There's no way to tell for sure until someone invents a time machine which allows these 2 teams to have two 5-test series. I think that's the strongest argument for a time machine yet, who's with me?! Lol. I'd plump for these 2 teams in the contest- Lloyd's WI: Greenidge Haynes Richardson...

    England 17-man squad

But Broad didn't bowl as well as either Anderson or Onions in seam friendly conditions. At the very least, he should be demoted to first change bowler. Flintoff gets into the team as a bowler, his batting is very much secondary so as long as he's bowling well, he has to be in the team and he...

    Australia new era

Wait for the Ashes to come around. Lol. TBH, I don't see the players who've replaced Warne, McGrath and Hayden as "sledgers". I can't see little Phil Hughes mouthing off to Pietersen or Mitch trying to stare down Flintoff after a nasty bouncer.

    Swalec Stadium

Ja, but the fact Cardiff is generally SO slow, it won't fill seamers wit confidence. I can see Rashid getting the nod for the 1st test. Na, but he at least showed promise at the infancy of his career. It was a case of "he's bowling well but not getting the rewards". Now I think it's the case...

    England 17-man squad

Completely agree. Onions of the last 2 seasons has been very good, and this season he's been especially good. The fact he has bowled a number of deliveries too good for county hacks to play isn't his fault. I think looking There is a case for BOTH Onions and Sidebottom being in the team since...

The stats do not do him justice!

That's true, and that is a result of not seeing quality wrist spin in our own game. It's not a secret we've had our asses handed to us by a number of Aussie leggies over the years, and Well tbh he IS the best thing in wrist spin from an English perspective. I don't think (though wouldn't bet...

The stats do not do him justice!

An average of 70 w/12 test centuries? That would make it 1 century every 7 innings which is world class. He averages 45 batting @ 6 which was possibly his ideal position. Many Indians I know would put him in an all-time team as stand-alone captain.

    England 17-man squad

In principal, I don't see the point naming a 17-man squad. But realistically, not many more will have a realistic chance of being picked for the 1st Ashes test. There is only 1 place up for grabs for the 1st test (providing Flintoff is fit) and that is for the 4th seamer/2nd spinner role...
