***Official*** 3rd Test at the WACA

The very definition of a match in the balance. If England pick up a couple of quick wickets then they are right back in the game...however, if Australia build even a one big partnership, they have England by the balls. First thing first, stop bowling negatively to Smith. Apart from a few balls...

    The captaincy

interesting question. I was just thinking back to captains in the last 20 years or so for England and we have Root, Cook, Strauss, Freddy, Vaughn, Hussain, Atherton, Stewart, Lamb and Gooch. Only one bowler among them and that too an all rounder. I think Willis was the last full blown front...

    Starc v. Wagner

Starc by some distance. Stats are one thing but when you actually watch them, Starc has all the tools of the trade, pace, bounce, swing, old ball and new ball trickery. He just needs to be a bit more consistent and replicate his ODI form in tests. wagner has done well and often punches above...

***Official*** 3rd Test at the WACA

The day had pretty much everything, the predictable Cook failure, the terrible application of DRS, good bowling, better batting and a fine battle between bat and ball. The best day of cricket in the entire series and yet it probably will not be enough to beat Australia.

England disintegrating like in 2013-14 Ashes - Johnson

Great bowling attacks are what Windies had throughout much of the 70s and 80, what Pakistan ahd in the late 80s and much of the 90s, what Australia had throughout the 90s and early 00s. This is not a great attack. It is good, effective, skilled but far from great. In 2 or so years when the...

England disintegrating like in 2013-14 Ashes - Johnson

It isn't a great attack though, which is the whole point.

England disintegrating like in 2013-14 Ashes - Johnson

I'm not discrediting Lyon the bowler I am simply stating he is not good enough to be Australia's best weapon, which he is at the moment.

    The Future of Test Cricket

What do you mean viable? Financial information released just this year shows the PCB is on par with CA in its earning and I think makes more than CSA. It is not financially viable to cut out the PCB, however, it is politically viable for India to do so, due to their own neurosis. The ICC...

Bond vs. Asif - who was a bigger loss for cricket?

very good point brought up, Asif's wrists were extraordinary. He had supple, almost spinner like wrists and when he wasnt getting swing, he could ball cutters better than just about anyone. Its also what made him good in ODIs, even though he lacked pace and often matches were played in non...

Dominating series perfomace against tough bowling attacks

Younis Khan did not do almost as good as Yousuf though, so my point still stands. Plus, multiple players may dominate a series, domination is not about how many do it but how much better the batsman is than the bowlers, particularly good bowlers. So again, the point stands.

Afghanistan to play India in first ever Test

As for Afghanistan, or for that matter Ireland, I do not see the reason for them to be ranked as test sides.

Afghanistan to play India in first ever Test

They have played SL in 6 back to back tests right? Shouldnt they have a bigger dent in their rankings? Its a terrible system anyway and the SA series will show the truth.

Bond vs. Asif - who was a bigger loss for cricket?

Really? Bond didnt dominate much, he only played a single test I think. This really was Asif's and he looked at a level few seam bowlers ever reach. It was amazing he could replicate such form on the dead or dying pitches of Pakistan, which were often (by that time) worse for fast bowling than...

Best left-arm seamer since Akram retired

Vaas played during Akram's time so he doesn't get my vote. I gave it to Johnson but Starc may overtake him in a season or 2.

England disintegrating like in 2013-14 Ashes - Johnson

The disintegration in 13/14 came as a result of severe pace from Johnson but thats not whats happening now. Its spin that is the killer and yes, England have had spin issues for decades but, and all respect to him, but Lyon isnt Warne or Ajmal or murali or Saqqy etc Even the younger English...

Dominating series perfomace against tough bowling attacks

I did not know the criteria was "where most others failed" which is a useless criteria tbh. Double checking OP, that isnt the criteria so no idea why its being discussed.
