What have we learned from the 3rd test

For once, I'd like to see a party pooper being sent out to pressers. Someone who says "O gee, I dunno, we're in a tough spot aren't we? We'll try to hang in there but really in these situations it's the hope that kills you in the end, isn't it?"

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

So basically we fold under fire. This is a young side yet so hope that this one hurts a lot and makes them rethink their approach to small targets. Not saying go berserk but not looking oppressed and under siege in body language goes a long way in conveying who's in the ascendancy.

Who are your favourite commentators/analysts on TV & Radio

I remember him sitting across from Brian Langley during the '92 WC back in the Prime Sports days. Unrecognizable from the cartoon of recent memory.

Who are your favourite commentators/analysts on TV & Radio

He's mellowed down a LOT. He's obviously a good time and still puts across like he's the skinny Ravi driving the Audi in '85 but beneath the bluster you can tell it's a guy who's been at this gig for decades now.

Who are your favourite commentators/analysts on TV & Radio

Atherton and Nasser Hussain. Great vibes allround: knowledge, pacing, timbre, presentation, amiability. Hands down the best pair commentating in these last twenty years. Ian Bishop's good but a bit too stiff-collared for my liking. The Aussie Skeletor is good when he's not being overly jokey...

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Jadeja did what he could. He doesn't have the power game of a Klusener or Stokes to scorch boundaries with the field out. Not much of a manipulator of gaps either. He can run as hard as anyone but after Reddy even that option was closed to him. He's basically a very limited strokemaker, but he's...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Joel Garner

The manner in which Bumrah is picking up wickets is qualitatively as good as anything I've seen. Someone much smarter than me should calculate the percentage of gifts he's benefited from, subjective though that criteria may seem. I suspect it will be among the lowest ever.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Yeah, jokes aside, I'm not big on if-onlys; smacks of a bitter, entitled mindset. The essence of sport is to capitalize on your opponent's weaknesses at just the right moments, a right skill of itself, and England have done that better hence deserve to be 2-1 ahead.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Yeah, it's hindsight to say he was doing alright letting the bunnies take as much strike as he did, but it's definitely not a practical strategy going forward because of just bad they are. He should've flicked whatever switch he had once the target came down to 30 and Root/Bashir started...

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

There can't be a more toxic set of ex-cricketers jumping in to offer their criticisms after a defeat or non-performance than what we have in India. Fans are hopeless as expected but you'd think people who've been there and have certainly lost a hell of a lot more in their time would have a...

Ravindra Jadeja vs Ravichandran Ashwin - Better test cricketer

Jadeja. Went neck n neck with Ashwin in India as bowling allrounder, and continues contributing with bat abroad. Superlative fielder too obviously. Not really much of a contest imo.

What have we learned from the 3rd test

    (1) That we have to bowl spin to Jamie Smith as soon as he comes in. (2) That we can't have so many bits n pieces allrounders who at best are only contributing middlingly in one discipline. (3) That NKR, if he continues playing, has to be the enforcer in the lower order. (4) That these are...

What have we learned from the 3rd test

Jury's out on Gill but ppl are being ridiculously harsh on Jurel. I have to believe they're just looking at byes on the scorecard and assuming he had a poor outing. Some folks were also complaining he dropped a catch standing up to a Woakes half-volley. I mean, come on now.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

On Nair, he's had three Tests where others around him have scored by the bucketload so it's hard to feel too sorry for him. May be that his reflexes for this level simply aren't what they might've been eight years ago. It has certainly been borne out in his hesitant footwork to good length bowling.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Forget Bashir and pick another seamer. No English spinner is going to pose India a serious challenge in these conditions but a full-on seam attack probably will.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Almost all of the byes I saw were balls from seamers swinging down the leg side. I doubt any keeper could've got a hand to them.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Spirit is a very tricky thing to quantify in a game like cricket. I'm sure if the Test was being played under Marquess Of Queensbury rules, our boys would've given even Ben Stokes a run for his money spirit-wise. But there's only so much you can do with the bat in hand when technique and mind...

They've flattered to deceive before. I have no hope they can do this on a consistent basis.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Can't the ECB work with his county or perhaps even move him to a different county where he gets to bowl more? His problems are almost exclusively related to bowling stamina at this stage.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

I think he should've changed gears once we were down to 30 because realistically that's about as much mileage as he could've milked from the bunnies before the odds caught up.
