Test Match or One Day Cricket

Well ... I'm not ridiculing. But it's in the nature of the game to allowed limited cricketers to succeed ... bowling restrictions, fielding restictions ... all designed to help the batters. It can be fun sometimes. But there's so much of it, I don't really care who wins of loses most of the...

Test Match or One Day Cricket

Test cricket by a mile. Too many mediocre and on-trick-pony cricketers are successful at ODI level. You don't have to be great to succeed at OD level. You just need a trick ... accurate bowling, fast scoring rate, bit of both. There have been so many successful medium pacers with mediocre bats...

    Spinners

Murali for me. Love to watch them both. But Murali carries an ordinary team on his slender shoulders. Warne doesn't have to. Warne augments a team that can win with or without him.

Age Master UP x2 I've updated the web page to include the selected players on a draft sheet. If you need to know who's been taken, and when, you can have a look here. I'll update the teams and standings at the end of round 5. That way it'll be a little more representative ... everyone having...

    Favorite XI's?

    1. Vaughn (love watching him bat in full flow) 2. Haydyn (not always pretty, but it sure is fun) 3. Lara ( ... no explanation required) 4. Hooper (in keeping with the style thread) 5. Tendular (see Lara) 6. Ponting (unique technique ... but magnificent strokeplay) 7. Gilchrist (see lara and...

    Vintage Cricket Draft Anyone?

I've clarified the rules about bowlers' batting reords, and batters' bowling records. See the "EDITS" in the first post of this thread. In the interests of not unbalancing things, I suggest we use these minimums as a qualification for putting players in batting or bowling slots. Jon

Well McGrath was my next pick too ... but he was the best available bowler, so I was just going by the rankings. My pick's coming in a minute ... I want to keep a handle on my bowling average. So I'll pick a fellow opinionated git: 5.06 Freddy Truman BOWL - 21.58 WICK - 307 5WI - 17 GIBBS UP

Oh ... well then I'll auto-pick for him 'till he returns. I'll give him the best available player at a position he needs ... There's no point skipping him. Skipping only works if he can jump in with his pick a little bit later. SLATS Picks: 5.03 Glen McGrath Marc UP Then: PY JohnnyA...

Best 'Keeper In T' World (nothing to do with batting ability)

Are you trying to tell me he didn't look jaded last summer? He's a gamer. He's a very intelligent and adaptable bowler. But he's not the bowler he was 3 or 4 years ago. There isn't the same nastiness and spitefulness about his deliveries. Besides, I've already answered this point once: When...

    Style!!

Anwar was quite an elegant stroke player, agreed. Hooper too. As for the rest, I think you're confusing style with aggression and entertainment. Still, I'd sooner pay to watch Lara or Gilchrist or Richards bludgen the bowling, than the elegant stroke players we've been talking about :) Steve...

Best 'Keeper In T' World (nothing to do with batting ability)

There's a difference between having a "bad" technique and an "unorthodox" technique. Smith and McGrath looked pretty out of their depth against good bowling. Jayasuria has a simple technique ... I wouldn't even say unorthodox by today's standards. Chanerpaul is a classic example of a unique...
